Larger backing plates and pads for Adam’s SK Pro 12mm Car Polisher?

mbco

Question

Looking for my first polisher and like the Adam’s SK Pro 12mm Car Polisher with 3" backing plates and pads for tighter areas and motorcycles but concerned it may be too small for larger panels like hoods, roofs and sides of larger vehicles.  Can this polisher accept and utilize larger backing plates and pads?

It can be swapped but I would not do it. Too much wear on bearings with a 5.5" pad, vibration, etc. It is designed for a 3-4" pad.

Something to consider is working panel by panel over time, even weeks to months. Believe it or not, Adam himself says it takes him 4 months to detail an entire vehicle, and his favorite machine is the 12mm/Mini so he uses that almost exclusively unless it's a big vehicle with larger, flatter panels. He will work on and coat one panel one day, then a week or so down the road do another, and so on.

The Adam's SK Pro 12mm Car Polisher is a great choice for tighter areas and motorcycles, as you mentioned. However, you are correct in thinking that it may not be ideal for larger panels like hoods, roofs, and sides of larger vehicles.

Regarding the backing plates and pads, the Adam's SK Pro 12mm Car Polisher is designed to work with 3-inch backing plates and pads. While it may be possible to use larger backing plates and pads with this polisher, it's not recommended, as it may put too much strain on the motor and cause it to overheat or wear out more quickly.

If you need a polisher that can handle larger panels, you may want to consider a dual-action polisher with a larger orbit, such as the Adam's Swirl Killer 15mm or 21mm. These polishers are designed for larger panels and can accept larger backing plates and pads.

Alternatively, if you prefer to stick with Adam's brand, you may want to consider the Adam's Rupes LHR 15ES Big Foot Polisher. This is a larger, more powerful polisher that can handle larger panels, and it also has a 15mm orbit.
