  1. I also had the issue with my pads turning black (I was using the MF pads with my Cyclo) when doing my 2012 Mustang (the other user has a 2013). I've got to take my car to the body shop (local Ford dealer) next week to have some paint work done and I'll ask those guys about it.

At least I got my girlfriend in on this one and grabbed her one of the "Addicted to the shine" t-shirts.....especially since she loves riding in my shiny car and the fact that I'll be keeping her new one looking that way.

  5. I don't recommend drying them in a dryer. Even on low heat mine started shrinking up a little bit. Only did it once and have always hang dried them since.
  6. Will definitely do. We're going to finalize the paperwork today and are heading out of town for the long weekend. It'll probably be next week before I get to really work on it. We'll probably give it a wash when we get it home today though.
  7. The GF and I have been searching for a new car to replace her 2005 Ford Focus. The biggest consideration was that I already have two kids (four year old boy and three year old girl) from my previous marriage, we have two dogs, and would also need extra room for when we decide to have a baby of our own. We ended up choosing the Explorer as the V6 provides a decent amount of HP and torque, is a highly rated vehicle for safety, has all the features we were looking for (third row seating while keeping the cargo area), and is an aesthetically pleasing SUV (in her and my opinion). The dealer gave us an awesome deal (XLT with the Comfort Package and power lift gate) coming out to $30,077 before tax/tag/title/trade/down payment. We got to drive it home for an overnight test drive and will be sealing the deal tomorrow. I've already requested that they not wash it, but the damage has already been done. Talk about swirl city. No problem though as the Cyclo needs a workout and I think a single pass of the Paint Finishing polish should do the trick.

  9. Not saying you're wrong but I put SVRT milk on my tires and ran it for a week and a half with rainy days. When the rain moved out my tires looked as good as when I first applied it. I also average 80 miles/day (37 miles one way commute to work).

  11. The stuff sitting on the surface should be fine unless it rains. Then you'd be looking at extra contaminants sitting in the water while it dries. On the other hand if they wash it and leave swirls/scratches, you'll be sitting there with them staring you in the face until you could polish them out. For a new car you should be able to get by with hand polishing it requiring nothing more than the applicator and some Revive. That would only be necessary should the car have scratches on delivery. A common misconception (and I've been a victim of this) is thinking that the polishing has to all be done at once. You'll be knocking the prep out when you wash it since you're already claying, etc. All you would really need to do is take it a panel at a time to work around scheduling (like it the car is sitting in the wide open and you have to do parts while the sun isn't burning on that portion). It also takes the stress out of feeling like you're under a time crunch. You would just polish, seal, and optionally glaze/wax one panel at a time. This way you still have the overall protection, but can take a week to get it done if you need to. The only extra step would be to clean the panels before starting if you end up driving it after washing. Five minutes with some WW and you're ready to go.
  12. This is probably true but when I did it with my glass towels and double soft, the glass towels came out with lint all over them.
  13. I also have all-weather mats in the Stang. I shake them off to get the excess off, spray then with APC and scrub with the fender brush, and then let them air dry. I haven't tried dressing them though, but I would think that lightly misting them with TID and wiping with a MF would get you a little shine without the slippery mess. Unless it's raining the day you put it on and she tries to drive. I know cleaning with APC works, but I would suggest doing a test with the TID if you go that route before applying it to all of the mats.
  14. Diluted SVRT. Mix it 50/50 with water in a spray bottle. Gives you a spray application for applying to the tires. Just spray it on, spread with the tire applicator, and wipe off the excess with a towel (I have some el-chepo MF's I bought at an auto parts store that I use for applications like this (they get washed with the utility towels and such)). The biggest thing to any SVRT application is to make sure that the surface is clean or the stuff doesn't last. I did a buddy's car yesterday and had to scrub the tires twice to get whatever dressing was on there before off and another pass to get them clean.
  15. It really depends on what I'm doing. Everything gets cleaned after each use. If I'm doing a full detail then I have a spare five gallon bucket that I dump 3 oz of APC into and 3/4 full of water. As I finish using items they'll go into the bucket until I get done. I usually try to make sure the water gets agitated once every 30 min or so. At the end everything gets cleaned as recommended by Adam's. I spot treat the MF with APC and agitate with my fingernail then usually mist the whole thing. After I've done that to all of them they go into the washer with 3 oz of MF Revitalizer. I have a new Samsung HE washer/dryer so they go in on the delicate cycle (low spin) with warm water wash and an extra rinse. Everything goes together except my single and double softs...they are washed by themselves. Everything is tumble dried on low heat which usually takes about one hour. I hand wash all the pads and applicators with Dawn except the ones I use for QS. My QS apps are soaked in the sink with 2 oz APC for a few hours or overnight (depending on when they go in). Everything gets thoroughly rinsed after. Adam's doesn't recommend it but I have a rack that goes inside my dryer for drying shoes so I'll put the in with all the pads applicator side up and run the dryer on low heat to dry them. Have you made yourself any SVRT milk yet? It makes applying it to your tires worlds easier.
  16. I hear ya. To sanitize you only need to hit about 170 and that's good enough to eat off of. The point about introducing moisture is a solid one though. I guess it really depends on what the OP wants to prevent.
  17. I think Gerry did a wonderfully helpful write-ups (as always) and can only think of one thing to add. Do yourself a favor and ask the dealer to not wash the car. Unfortunately most of the guys cleaning cars at dealerships are way more worried about getting your car done rather than cleaning it properly. They would also most likely dress the trim using a silicone based product (because it tends to provide a high glossy shine (which is a preference thing) and is a PITA to clean off). Do you have a polisher?

  20. The heat of the steam cleaner will be enough to kill most common bacteria and would also help prevent any mold of mildew from forming.
