Ok, so I was at my dealer getting and oil change and I had to wait a while so I started walking around. I came to the collision center because of some chips in my paint. I wanted to hear what they thought I should do to fix it. They just suggested touch up paint. About an hour and a half later my car was done and I went back to the collision center after buying the touch up paint from the parts department. I wanted them to actually take a look at what I was going to be working on since I've never even used touch up paint before. They saw how big one of my chips was and recommended building up the touch up paint above the paint and then wet sanding it down with 2k grit to a level surface, then follow up with polishing. I seemed kind of hesitant to accepting this task because I've never wet sanded before and I told him that. He told me that if I build up the paint over a few days and take it back to the shop that he would have one of his guys show me how to wet sand.
My question is should I accept? Normally I love to get a hands on experience from someone who knows what they are doing, but.. My reasons for thinking twice about it is.
1) He recommended wet sanding to someone without knowing if they are capable of doing it or not.
2) I talked to him about soaking the paper he said all you have to do it dip it in to get it wet.
3) He just recommended 2k grit not followed by anything.
4) He was leaning on my car.
On the other hand he will not be the one doing my work. But should I trust the nice finish on my car to his workers in the shop or try this on my own?
Here's the damage. It's right below my driver side window.
