How much do you dilute it? 

At my old house I installed 200 ft of goodyear heavy duty hose and went with a commercial reel. I bought rims that were plasti dipped black and I used wd-40 and a pressure washer. I went through one medium can per wheel and let it soak for about 15 min before pressure washing. For the stubborn spots I used a plastic razor blade to encourage it off. It is not a fast process but did work well.

Easy day 

I didn’t get a chance to do the trucks wheels this weekend but while working on my mustang I was able to hit the chrome trim on the grill and made it pop!

from my experience with polishing a lot of chrome on a Harley and other chrome (no clear coat), you will not see any black or gray residue like polishing a bare metal.  The Adam's metal polish 1 and 2 do a great job, you probably will only need to use metal polish 1 with chrome.
