Checking In From Long Island, NY
eric@thompsonracing.us replied to Obnoxiousblue's topic in New Member Check-In
Welcome Mike! Those are some shiny center caps! Sounds like you know what you're doing and have a couple good people helping you out! -
Congrats on the machine! You'll never detail by hand again! It'll pay itself off in a couple of jobs!

Removing Wax/Polish Residue from Plastic Parts
eric@thompsonracing.us replied to ticaaal70's question in Exterior Protection & Enhancement
I've traditionally use Detail Spray to remove wax residue and excess polish on plastic parts. I try to catch it rather quickly, but it has worked for me. PB works too, but messier than DS. -
Wheel Woolie ?
eric@thompsonracing.us replied to SuperSnake850's question in Wheels, Tires, Trim, & Undercarriage
I still carry the 3 piece set of Wheel Woolies, as well as their Detail Brush and their Boar's Hair Fender Brush, which I like as a replacement for Adam's Boar's Hair Wheel Brush. Click on any of the links for more detail. Braun Brush makes a great product! -
Master Blaster
eric@thompsonracing.us replied to ray14sher's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
The Master Blaster and Sidekick are not just blowers. They actually heat the air and have HEPA filters! I will not dry my car with a towel, unless I am stuck and don't have access to my Sidekick or Master Blaster. They are even good for drying your wheels and tires. No more waiting for tires to dry before shining. -
I have detailed many cars in the direct sunlight, working shows and clinics. It is not ideal, but it can be done. As mentioned, if you can avoid it, don't detail in the sun! Pop up tents help. Also, the Rinseless wash system is really good for people without access to water. If you wash in the sun, I would definetly do one panel at a time.

Lets talk business management
eric@thompsonracing.us replied to infinitone's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
I have had good success with Big Commerce, as I mentioned above. I built the site myself and have little computer skill. You can add multiple pages. I just began adding all of the Adam's Videos: http://stores.shopthompsonracing.com/adams-detailing-videos/ I had used Homestead (a Quickbook website builder) in the past and it was aweful. I'm doing everything I can to move away from Quickbooks. They were ok 4 years ago, but really haven't stayed up with the pack. Also, Constant Contact is a good way to keep your customers in touch. -
Welcome Mike, great story! You definitely found the right product and the right forum!

Welcome Kendrick! Hope you made it to Carlisle, always a great event! Not sure if Adam planned to be there, but he was at our shop last month. Stay tuned, we are planning a fall event! If you can meet up with Fred P, do so! He is a pro Adam's man! I went to LVC and lived in Lebanon and Annville. I spent a lot of time (late night) at Millersville. Great area to live.

The Tileworks is a crazy place. I was told he build it out of concrete due to his fear of burning to death! -

Lets talk business management
eric@thompsonracing.us replied to infinitone's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
I have been using Quickbooks/Intuit for a few years. It has it's pluses and minuses. I recently moved our website from Homestead (Intuit platform) to Big Commerce. I am not good with computers and was able to build the site myself and manage it myself. My Big Commerce store is a lot easier to manage, offers a lot more options, including sales, banners, etc. My internet business has expanded because of it. Big Commerce Shop Thompson Racing I have also moved from Intuit Merchant Services to Cashier Live for my POS @ shows/clinics. I use a Linea Pro on my iPhone and it works amazing! They are the same scanners/CC swipers used @ the Apple Store. I have barcoded all my inventory and can teach someone to run the system in under a half hour. The system is very easy to use and works! I used to use a Mophie and before that had a Square. In my opinion, Square is a POS and has left me stranded at multiple Carlisle events. That was 4 years ago, there are more options today. Swirls after washing
eric@thompsonracing.us replied to fiveoh's question in Washing, Drying, and Decontamination
I always use two wash pads. I use a Jumbo Wash Pad or a Merino Wool Pad on the top and a 9x9 Pro Wash pad on the bottom half. There are two reasons for this. 1: you never want to use the "bottom pad" on the top half of the car and vice versa. This includes the car wash next time. The size or material difference will alert you which pad to use where. 2: I like a smaller pad for the bottom half of the car. The large pads are great for covering a lot of paint up top and spreading a lot of suds, but on the bottom half of the car I want to make sure the pad does not touch the ground. On low cars, like sports cars, this becomes tricky. Also, I use an Air Force Master Blaster or Blaster Sidekick to dry my car. I avoid contacting my paint when drying, unless on the road and electric is not available. That said, if you use microfiber, use a lubricant, such as Detail Spray or Waterless Wash. Make sure to have a good coat of sealant on paint and use the pooling technique to reduce the amount of work on your paint to dry. If using a microfiber to dry, go one direction with the wash pad when washing, and go the perpendicular direction with the drying towel. This may alert you to the source of the damage. -
Which pad or applicator for Buttery Wax?
eric@thompsonracing.us replied to ACRCAR's question in Exterior Protection & Enhancement
Like posted above, Blue Microfiber Pads, Red Dressing Applicators, and Blue Hex Grip work by hand. Black or Red foam Pads work for machine. -
Maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but it looks like there is something on top of your leather. Looking at the perfs, a few of them are filled in with the white material. Take a damp microfiber utility towel and try wiping it off.
