  1. Doesn't always work..... I had kids in the rumble seat looking out the back and all the kids fight to be there. ALWAYS get kids looking, pointing, and smiling when I have passengers back there. I guess they're to young to remember what a Station Wagon is:mad:

Cool? EVERYONE knows that wagons ain't "cool";)

  2. I was sitting at a gas station last month and a guy said to his wife "see, I TOLD you Buick still made wagons". I explained that it's a '96 and has 130K on it. He didn't believe me until I showed him the door sticker.

Every show I go to I get this question about 3 or 4 times "was it hard to shoehorn that LT1 in there?" My answer is always the same. "Don't know, came from the factory like that"

  3. Thanks guys.

I have concrete subfloors, so laminate is my ONLY option:mad:

BTW, the "stuff" all over everything is not dust; the idiot tile installer (AKA me) decided that it would be a good timesaver to pick up all the excess grout with a shop-vac. Problem is, I had the foam water filter in instead of the dry paper one:loser::loser: The shop-vac proceeded to spew dust over EVERYTHING:mad:

    Update:

  4. Robert...I want to see pics of the new install. Bet the floor looks great!!

    Are you SURE??

    OK, don't say I didn't warn you.....

This is what the prep looked like. (I HATE this part)

step 1, empty out EVERYTHING and trash the place:glasses:

    newfloors008.jpg

    newfloors009.jpg

step 2. shove everything from the kitchen into the living room, lay tile then return to kitchen. Not sure if you can tell, but the tile has 3 different colors; all of which reflect light at different angles. Try moving your monitor front to back to see what I mean. Pretty cool....

then put living room stuff into kitchen and dining room chairs into the laundry room:help::help::help:

    newfloors006.jpg

    3. rip out old carpet one section at a time and replace with new floor.

Darn cat always checking out my work........

    newfloors002.jpg

With any luck, I'll get the house put back together shortly as I finish the install..

BTW, I did the wood on the walls too.....

After pics will follow as they become available:thumbsup:

  5. And that is probably the hardest part of detailing - prove to the customer it's worth the cost. You need to find an effective way to sell your services with emphasis on the difference between a detail and a simple wash. How you do that depends on your area.

This is how I justify the cost: I explain that the process will take "X" hours, but you'll go from this:

    swirledhood.jpg

    to This:

    polishedhood.jpg

and, yes, I DO carry a brochure with the pics in it wherever I go....

  6. I get my paste wax out by tipping the container over the pad and SLIGHTLY squeeze the sides to get air to the bottom....let it slide out and then "butter....EVER SO LIGHTLY.... the pad. This little bit will do the hood and both fenders of my wagon. An 8oz jar can/will, and has done 25-30 applications.

As stated above, the wax itself is hard- concrete block hard- and needs to be thinned out with other materials. Liquids have less wax in them by design.

In my experience, Carnauba looks best on the darker colored cars, while the sealants are fine for the lighter ones.

I have used the- and I'll use brand names here for comparison purposes- the $12 Mothers Gold paste, $35 Pinnacle Signature Series II, and the Pinnacle Sovereign paste at $85, all in 8 oz jars. YES, there is a difference in the quality, durability, wetness and shine. While all state they are carnauba, the difference is in the quality and %. The higher the %, the higher the cost and subsequently, the better the results. Svisswax, from what I understand, is a "wet dream" product, but at $1100 a jar, I'll have to deal with Claudia Schiffer;). The Mothers was a wash and went in the trash, while the Signature is used on customers cars that want it, and the Sovereign goes on my car:drool:

Here's a thought.. If you are happy with the buttery wax, You'll LOVE the paste, providing that it contains more carnauba.

  7. I am exhausted!! Just finished laying 240 square feet of tile in the kitchen, breakfast, and laundry room by myself:rockon:

Wife did laundry-- without telling me-- and proceeded to dump GALLONS of water all over the new floor:mad::mad: ( washing machine drain hose was not connected yet) Shopvac to the rescue!!

And tomorrow starts the 440 square feet of hardwood in the living room (after the carpet comes out and the moisture barrier goes down):willy::help:

I'm getting too old for this crap. I work more while on vacation than I do at work:lolsmack::confused::confused:

I'm going to pay someone to do the counter tops and cabinets in the kitchen:cheers:

  8. In a former life, I knew a lot about Linux. What brand?

    UBUNTU

Have a video driver issue with the laptop (seems the inbred... um, onboard video does not carry Mac or Linux drivers)

I can't beat Chuck Norris! Chuck doesn't detail his cars, he commands them clean. lol.gif

I'm no help to you Mac guys and I know little about Linux. My company serves the PC crowd and I have more work than I can shake a stick at. I'm supposed to be working now but man, I'm draggin'.

Good thing your company uses PC, otherwise you'd be out of work as Mac and Linux (Mac based) are WAY more stable:lolsmack::lolsmack:

  9. Thanks guys. I understand about the black..... I called the customer to come pick it up and I spent the next 15 minutes wiping the darn pollen off the car... and KEPT wiping it down as he inspected it:o

At least he says that I am the ONLY one allowed to touch the paint from now on:cheers:

  10. Detailed a '96 Impala SS today. Not bad when I started, but WHOA!! What a difference clay, polish, and wax will do....

As it showed up in my driveway:

and these waterspots didn't come off in the wash either.

    test009.jpg

    test011.jpg

again, not bad, but I KNOW I can do better...

  11. LMAO!! I was thinking the exact same thing! Those arent hairs, those are friggin quills or something. At that point, you buy a trailor to tow the pet...yuck

That was under the seat on his F150. He owns a pet grooming shop and uses the truck to transport the pets to/from

Those are DOG hair, just looks like that on High Def:lol:
