1. .... you have super strong calves from parking your car in the last possible spot in every parking lot. .... you are far more concerned about the one smudge on your windshield while other cars look like they have driven through a spider web patch. .... you see the cheaper quality car care products in a local retail establishment and get that little smirk on your face.
2. Kind of agree here. Although I know where the A Pillars are located (front of car at either end of windshield) I think you could have taken a better angle. Certainly a closer shot would help greatly. That being said, awesome job. I love the dip on pillars. Protects them and prevents the greasy palm/finger look. Very nice!
3. Free of charge, you are welcome. P.S. ---- Dylan's may be better.......
4. What kind of light do I see in that reflection picture? Looks bad ***. Like some sort of Independence Day-Alien-Strobe...
5. That's awesome man. Grats! Can't wait to see this.
6. I have to disagree on that one. That stuff certainly doesn't peel right off. Especially if you let it cure for a few days. No one loves the dip more than the Boz. My 2 examples stayed in place with no peeling, chipping, curling etc.... 1) (Charger Here) http://www.adamsforums.com/forums/detailers-write-ups/18075.htm 2) (Sonata Here) http://www.adamsforums.com/forums/detailers-write-ups/17215-2.htm
7. Jeez.... that does not sound like fun. Are you allowed to even look at the paint?
8. we are planning a new run of banners and want your input. --> Is it the new garage banner the Adam's Corvette/Camaro picture at the top of the page?
9. Welcome aboard! Sweet ride man.
10. No business and no group of employees deserves this more than Adam's. Congratulations on this very much deserved move. Here's to continued success and growth!
11. I'm from someplace warm.... where the beer flows like wine... a little place called ASPEN..... j/k outside of Milwaukee in the Brookfield area.
12. Welcome aboard! Nice to see another Milwaukee rep in here!
13. Awesome job on the dip man! I especially appreciate the care taken to cover the engine. Nobody loves the dip like Adam loves the dip!
14. Hey Adrian, Thanks for the reply. In terms of how it was done, this was my process..... First, I covered the car with a brand new plastic drop cloth. They only cost about $1.50, so I don't feel bad about throwing it away after. You really need to cover the whole car because this stuff has a fairly serious over spray. Second, I used two kinds of tape. Standard old Painters tape for the straight lines at top and the very thin (maybe 2/16") painters tape for the rounded corners. Using this smaller tape makes curves really easy. This tape works perfectly with this method and I'll explain why. (Let me preface the fact that both scoops were stripped with a quick IPA wipedown once taped off.) Lastly, the application. Since this has a taped off design you cannot let the dip dry, which is why the tape works so well, the dip should not have time to dry to it. I applied about 20ish layers of plasti dip, using even, consistent and continuous spray patterns. Once the product has built up thick enough (thick enough so that it still looks very wet black) you peel the tape off at a hard angle. Since the product is still wet, you get a very clean and surgical edge to it. Then, just simply let dry. For this amount of product built up so quickly, complete dry occurs around 30 or so minutes depending on temp. Normally, you would obviously let dip dry in thin layers, but that is only the case when you have the natural edge of the car or whatnot to help break the application edge. Designs like this require a very quick application and quick removal. Hope this helps. Thanks for the kudos...
15. Hey guys, Thanks for all the kind words and advice. I just wanted to give you all a few updates. I took a suggestion and rounted out the bottom corners of the sections. Now they exactly follow the lines of the scoop and look even better. And on a side note, I do also know about PDR and did even get a quote. I have a very good body shop about 1/4 mile from my house. Not too bad in terms of cost either, but I'll save the repair for a later date. Since I wanted a matte finish in my scoops, this sort of killed two birds with one stone for now. Anyway, some new pics.... Please let me know what you think!
16. Hey everybody..... Just wanted to show you a project I undertook and maybe get a few opinions if you like/dislike. I want to give you a quick back story..... I was cleaning my garage a few weeks back and in my infinite wisdom, I put my yard spreader in the rafters of my garage. A few weeks later a heard a *thud* in the garage and my heart sank. I went outside and saw the spread landed on my hood (of course it would). Overall, I got off very lucky and the damage could have been sooo much worse. I buffed out all of the minor scratches no problem (thanks Adam's). I wouldn't call the worst of it a dent per se. The worst of it was more of a "stamp" mark within one of the hood scoops (2012 Dodge Charger FYI). Regardless, it still sucked. I didn't really want to take it to a body shop for such a minor stamp, not to mention the cost of it all. I think I was fairly clever in my fix, but you can all be the judge. I've always wanted matte black somewhere on my finish, this just forced my hand I suppose. So I went all MacGyver on it with some painters tape and plasti dip. The only reason this worked it because the dent was very small and not deep and I built up quite a few layers of plasti dip. Anyway.... on to the pictures. Enjoy! Here you can see the dent. Look on the hood for the reflection of the power outlet. Just below the reflection of the outlet.... Prepping for surgery. Completed job.... no dent visible Another angle. Look at that A-hole spreader in the background taunting me... I'll melt that thing! Full frontal... lol
17. I could not agree more. That's how life goes I suppose. Once you really invest yourself into something, you inevitably start to notice it among other. It doesn't help that the large majority us are already OCD about car care as it is. I always found it funny when I buy a new car how many of that same car you start to notice on the road..... Almost like people weren't driving your car until you bought yours.
18. Holy Schnikes....... Awesome turnaround!!! I still can't believe some people treat their cars like that. I'm not saying people need to be OCD about their cars (like most of us on this forum), but moderate care and cleanliness should be common sense. Anyway, great work.
19. Excellent work!!! That is a complete turnaround on a heavily damaged paint.
20. My old car. But a really clean de-badge. I removed the SONATA to give it a cleaner, sleek look. When I was closing on the paperwork, the dealer also put a horrible gold vinly decal underneath the SONATA as well (not pictured). The car was not home 2 minutes before I ripped that vinyl off. I could not remove the "H" as this was bolted to the trunk. But I did subdue it a bit by Plasti-dipping the letter and making it a nice matte black color. I also plati-dipped the chrome strip below the "H" and added some nice tinting on the windows. See pictures below. Before: After:
21. The main reason I debadge mine as well. It goes without saying all those horrible vinyl dealer decals and dealer licence plate brackets come off as well. In no way, shape or form will I give them free advertising.
