Could this be fixed?

Question

I recently bought a 2004 F-250 from my buddy. It is in great shape since it only has 37k miles on it. But a part of the body panel is all oxidized. Can the PC correct this and if so what would I use? I am pretty sure it needs to be repainted but, figured I would ask.

(sorry if the picture is crumby, I couldnt find the cord to upload my normal camera to the computer so had to settle on a camera phone)

I appreciate any insight.

That's on the body side molding, right? Those things are usually made from some type of poly material. It looks like the clear is gone. If it's oxidized, I don't think it will come out. I could be wrong though. First, clay them then give what Chris said a shot. Worst case scenario, you have to replace or repaint the moldings.

I would try the 4" focal pads if you have them. Can't tell from the pics if they will work but like someone else said you don't have much to lose. In a worst case you can just replace these moldings.

Just did some corrections today using these 4" focal pads on a neighbor's red Acadia. (I usually use a drill and not the PC) These 4" focal pads are great for small items like these. I removed some white paint from a parking lot door scrape on a door molding and it works great... assuming the clear coat is still intact and in good shape.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Because they are attached, be sure to use caution not to hammer down too hard, or you risk knocking them off. If they are showing wear like that, obviously the glue holding that stuff on isn't exactly new anymore either.

Maybe try using the 4" pads on the PC first...

:iagree:

And tap around them so you don't mess up the paint with the 4" pads.

Mine did the same thing. Three of them anyway. The forth is still OK. Go figure. They clean up fairly well with APC. Not sure what I'm going to do about mine yet.
