LFairbanks
This trip is carrying an Olympic Torch that will be taken outside of ISS. It will then be returned to Earth and will be used to light the cauldron at the start of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia in February. http://www.nasa.gov/content/arcing-towards-orbit/#.UnxdW6XENuY
LFairbanks
Interesting picture of the world and Global Forest Change. Interesting how you can click on the link in the bottom right and look at various things such as the Tornado that went through Alabama in April of 2011. http://earthenginepartners.appspot.com/google.com/science-2013-global-forest The link below shows the present and early pictures of the Milky Way. http://www.nasa.gov/press/2013/november/hubble-reveals-first-pictures-of-milky-ways-formative-years/#.UoW1yaXENuY Edited November 15, 2013 by LFairbanks Mongosg8
LFairbanks
Hard to believe that the ISS has been in orbit for 15 years tomorrow. Makes you wonder why they can't make other things as durable. Something that can last so long in the harsh environment of space and still continue to operate. http://spaceinimages.esa.int/Images/2012/11/International_Space_Station_salutes_the_Sun Here is a link that will give you exact times in the world to see it pass over. Was a fun link when the shuttle was in service and you could watch the ISS pass over and a few minutes later see the shuttle trying to catch up. http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/#.UouTDqXENuY A time lapse video of the Earth as the ISS passes over. Really an amazing view that very few have the opportunity to see in person. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPj8D5KaPVU http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Human_Spaceflight/International_Space_Station/Happy_birthday_Space_Station Edited November 20, 2013 by LFairbanks Mongosg8

LFairbanks
Hard to believe that it was 10 years ago that Spirit landed on Mars. Opportunity is still going. Too bad Spirit got stuck and was never able to free itself. The USA has had a huge success rate in comparison to other countries, in just being able to land on Mars. Let alone all the other scientific studies that are done once on the ground. http://www.nasa.gov/content/ten-years-ago-spirit-rover-lands-on-mars/#.UsbzSP3ENuY Shows success and failures of all countries that have tried. http://mars.nasa.gov/programmissions/missions/log/ More information on the rovers and the one that continues operate, Opportunity. http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/home/index.html Mongosg8

LFairbanks
Mind boggling to think of something that is thousand trillion - times larger than that of the sun. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/chandra/multimedia/extreme-black-hole-power.html#.UuH7u_0QGqQ When I was a small kid there was a movie called "The Black Hole". I thought they were just science fiction. Mongosg8 and mc2hill
Mongosg8
Crazy to thinnk of the extreme size of this black hole. Our sun is huge when you compare it wih our plantes in our solar system. People do not realize the size of our sun is small compared to others. This is a thousand trillion times larger than our sun ..gives you an idea that this black hole will suck in galaxies bigger then ours. Chris I remember that movie well. I had to read the book for school Here is a little teaser of the intro to the movie .. pretty funny to see how low budget the tech was for this movie but I always enjoyed it as a kid.
