Well After 6.5 hours of Polishing My Wheels....

Question

Posted

The wheels on this car were disgusting to say the least... the fronts looked awesome because i always kept up with them but i was never able to reach all the way in the back, so they never got cleaned.:(

Soo me and my dad bought a bunch of stuff to jack the car up right and get the wheels off.

these pictures might not be in order because there are so many but im going to try and group them in "before" "during" and "after".. I know how much every one likes pics so i try and take as much as possible.

ON TO THE PICS!!!

BEFORE:

Spraying it down with APC and scrubbing it with a sponge, the APC suds pretty good i think.

DURING:

After hosing off the APC:

Looks good, maybe I am just lazy, but wouldn't it be easier to have the backs of the rims painted or powder coated to prevent that?

Looks great I like how many pics you took. What did you use to polish them? I need to do that to mine some time.

no problem, i love seeing pics, and i also like showing them! i used Busch aluminum polish because these wheels were so shot and busches has a little more cutting power then Adams wheel polish, i can PM you a link if you would like. Plus i would be using up to much of the good expensive stuff.:jester:

Looks great man! My car did the same thing when i took of the rear wheels last weekend for about 30 min i thought i had bent some suspension parts or somthin with the jack.... until i pushed down on the rear end a few times and it settled a little. ? the pics before polish that black stuff was that some type of grim that wouldn't scrub off?

yep, who knows what that was, after 2 years of sitting on there it could be anything!:willy:

So howd you get it off? I think that's what Ive got on my front rims. My guess is some type of brake dust road grime ****tail, given that my rears had nearly none and the fact my car model is notorious for dusting on the front.

the black stuff that was on there after the APC came right off with the mothers powerball and busches aluminum polish. the black spots AFTER polishing was just extra polish that i needed to wipe off.

yea those might be pretty hard, especially if its going to be on the ground and not a lift...our rears are 305's and 19" but they really werent that bad.

Nice job Brian:thumbsup: Polished aluminium wheels are hard to beat when shined to a mirror like finish:drool:

Gotta love the APC, that stuff works good to get off the brake dust and road grime, I just got some used CCW wheels, and the barrels were pretty nasty and the APC cleaned them up pretty good.

There was someone on another forum that put some sort of clear epoxy o something on the inside of his wheels that I though about, I'll see if I can get a link, and I'm going with ceramic brakes pad too!!
