Tips for using the spot pads and a drill?

IMADreamer

Question

I ordered the spot pads a few days ago with the 4th of July sale, they haven't shipped yet but they'll be here in a few days I'm sure. My concern is I have two spots with some scratches that are tight to get to so I don't think I can use the PC. This means using the drill. My concern of course is burning the paint since I won't have the random patter of the PC, but the straight circular pattern of the drill. So any tips on technique and what to watch for would be much appreciated.

Avoid the edges, and make sure you go over the scratch multiple times. I usually go over a scratch about a dozen times, yellow, orange, and white pads every time. Better to work it out slow, than to try and knock it out in on heavy shot!

My advice is if you are using a drill, make sure your not over heating the paint. Its very easy to do with powerful 18v drills. I use a 12v drill for spot buffing. The faster the pad is spinning the more heat you are generating. Stay away from the edges with the SHR + Yellow & Orange; white + FMP is a good combo to practice with as its the least aggressive available.

Don't get discouraged if you get some holograms with the drill, PC + White/FMP will remove the holograms no problem!

I usually use my plug in drill so I think common since plays a big roll here. Goal is to keep the pad moving. If you keep it moving heat build up will be minimal as long as you're not leaning into it. I used it a TON on my G8 to get the deeper scratches out of her.

Of course you CAN put the pads on your PC. I did that A LOT too.
