Here is a description of the 1905 salad:

Columbia's Original "1905" SaladTM

The Columbia's legendary salad tossed at your table. Crisp iceberg lettuce with julienne of baked ham, natural Swiss cheese, tomato, olives, grated Romano cheese and our famous garlic dressing (our 100 year old family recipe of fresh garlic, oregano, wine vinegar and Spanish extra virgin olive oil).

Cool thanks! I need to cater to our friend who is a meat and potato guy.

I see you're in Naples... I'm spending a couple days with friends in Orlando, but 12 days in Marco at my parents place. I know Naples very well of course. Been coming down since '94.

If you are in Rochester, NY you have to get a Garbage plate.

When I first moved there I went to place near by called Empire Hots and got their version called a trash plate. The guy could tell from my country twang I had from living in Texas that I wasn't from there. He told me I needed to set the to-go box in the floor board because the grease would spill out and stain my seats!

Good burger joint (well the best I have every had, and I have lived in alot of places) in Rochester is Bill Grays. http://billgrays.com/default.asp

Best Steak and Crab Cake (called "steak and cake") is at a hole in the wall place connected to a gas station called Fox Valley. By far the best crab cake and have an incrediable wine selection!! http://www.birminghammenus.com/foxvalley/

Good unique place in Daphne, AL called Manci's http://www.manci.net/ has tons....tons.. of antiques and old pictures all over the place. It was actually on "Diners Drive Ins and Dives" TV show. Funny thing is apparently in the womens bathroom there is a picture of a man with a big leave over his private area and when you lift up the leaf it rings a loud bell in the place and everyone stares at you coming out of the bathroom. More of a bar setting but does have some good food and some great po boys! My stepdad has been going there since the 80's back when it was just a bar.

I could go on for days with this!

I can still taste the garlic from this salad this morning! (but in a good way!) I made the mistake of saying "yes" when the waiter asked if I wanted the "full Salad". He meant versus the "dinner" salad -what a huge plate lettuce, ham, and cheese!

Columbia's has steaks and shredded beef, but not potatoes. If he does rice or yucca, he would be ok - their "good" rice is excellent. Roy's and Bonefish have 'meat and potato' type meals. I'll check on some others too.

Oh man! I do a lot of eating, my GF and I are always finding new places or at least trying to.

One that stands out above the rest. Old Homestead Steakhouse in NYC. The steak is out of this world! Raw bar for appetizers is also stellar. Colossal shrimp there are probably the best shrimp I have ever had. You know it's serious when you have to use a fork and knife to eat a single shrimp. Fillet Mignon served on the bone! Probably the best piece of steak I ever had.

On Long Island her and I are very partial to the Snapper Inn out in Oakdale. Great seafood, good prices, and a good atmosphere. German food, Oak Chalet in Bellmore, place has never disappointed either of us, and we have gone to most of the German restaurants on Long Island. BBQ food, we always enjoy Smokin Al's, but you have to be in the right mood. Portions are gigantic, and the have one of the best cole slaws I have ever tasted. We also like LL Dent, small little BBQ joint in Carle Place, I believe the owner used to be Eddie Murphy's private chef. It's more traditional and true to southern cooking.

Old Homestead Steaks in NYC is my favorite steak house. An original in the old beef district. Don't roam the streets unattended. LOL!

Awesome, after I made my post, I figured if I went back and looked someone from NJ or NY would of already posted it.

Place is truly exceptional, and while it's not cheap, it's not too expensive either. My GF and I ate 3 course for a tad under 200$, but neither of us were drinking.

Mickey, I did some work in the Winston Salem/Greensboro area a couple years ago. When I was in town the first place I would go is Firehouse Subs (We don't have one in Milwaukee). I think it was in High Point off of 68. There were a few other places I really liked in Greensboro, but I can't remember their names.

Firehouse is good. I really like the Jimmy Johns on Wendover Ave. They have awesome subs.

To bad you didn't indulge. I love the $15 martini's! They are one of a kind. Washtub of gin with blue cheese stuffed olives. Only takes one.

This is the place you want to dine if you are trying to impress a client or visitor. It's sooooooo NY city. How about that HUGE angus over the front door!

Man this is a great thread. It's making me so hungry!

No worries about attire in the 'attractions' area - sunburned folks in t-shirts sit beside the ones with suits & ties at Emeril's.

Marco Island...the place I got flea bites in a 3/4 million dollar condo.....:help:

Anyway, I have family in Naples and have gone down to visit since 1990. (I missed Andrew by one day, that would have been cool to experience.) One place I like to go to is the Riverwalk Restaurant at Tin City. Nothing like lunch or dinner on the waterfront.

http://www.riverwalktincity.com/

In the Chicago area for fine dining it's Courtright's in Willow Springs. This lovely spot borders a Forest Preserve. We've watched Bambi and family stroll by the window. Great food and the wine list is extraordinary.

I also like Tallgrass in my hometown of Lockport. This place or the one above are THE place to go on a date with the wife.

http://tallgrassrestaurant.com/

For pizza it's Lou Malnati's. I just love the place in Naperville almost as much as I love their pizza.

http://www.loumalnatis.com/default.aspx

For steak it's Louie's Chophouse. Fantastic meat!

http://www.louieschophouse.com/

For cheeseburgers, Chicago dogs or Italian beef it's Mark's:

http://markson59.com/main.htm

Their shakes are made with Edy's Ice Cream. I give the 4 drools: :drool:

Any mom and pop, interstate, truck stop dinner. They always have the best food.

The I-80 truckstop (worlds largest truck stop, they did an entire episode of Modern Marvels on this place) has some of the best broasted chicken I have ever had.

Yum.... Broasted Chicken! I haven't heard that in years. Use to get it at the "Bridge Cafe" in Chicopee, MA. Thought they were the only one. LOL.

I think it is an east coast thing. I don't see many broasted chicken places here out west. In fact, I have mentioned it to some folks and then had to explain what it is and how to cook it.

Oh and for the other Detroiters, three words: National Coney Island. Two on one chili only, fries chili only.
