2010 Lexus ES350- 1st time using a polishing machine
gapwedge replied to gapwedge's topic in Detailing Write-Ups
Hi Jerome, I used a Nikon D700 with a 50mm/1.4 lens and a 24-70mm/2.8 lens for the wide angle shots. No modifications just a great camera. I'm a semi-pro photographer although the pics above in the first post were just quick grab shots. Below are additional shots in the driveway all shot with the D700 and 24-70mm/2.8 lens. -
Thanks Marylander. I just traded in my Tacoma TRD Sport on my Lexus. Loved it, but wanted to go back to a smoother ride for these old bones.

2010 Lexus ES350- 1st time using a polishing machine

Understand. I could not find the mini-Americana wax in the list of waxes. I really don't want the $70 version. Is it no longer available? -
2010 Lexus ES350- 1st time using a polishing machine

Yes, it is a red mica finish. I don't have any wax yet, so maybe Glaze over my sealant? -
I am not only new to Adam products, but new to using an orbital machine. I used my machine for the first time and enjoyed using it but here are my questions: 1. The 6" foam pad really seems to use a lot of product. Does the pad absorb the product after the first application and I can machine polish longer than I think on less polish on the 2nd application? It's hard to really tell how much is being applied to the paint and how much area I can do. 2. Can I polish using Adam's polishes on the entire vehicle before buffing off or do I need to stop and buff a section at a time? Will it set up and become difficult to remove if I do the entire vehicle? Thanks.

I am in transition from using my remaining Zaino products to Adams so this is a combination of products. I got the 2010 last week and though the dealership 'detailed' it there was still 4 years of contamination on the finish as my fingers attested. So, after washing with blue Dawn dishwashing detergent I clay barred and in some areas had to clay again. It was that bad. Next, I used Zaino's AIO cleaner/polisher to remove the remaining contaminates using the Griots Garage 6" orbital and my Adam's white pad. Since Lexus has soft paint I used Adam's Finishing Polish with a second clean white pad. This corrected all of the swirl marks. Fortunately there were no scratches on the vehicle so I didn't have to use the Correction Polish/Orange Pad. Then I finished with Zaino's Z2 Pro/Z8/Z5/Z8 sealants. I am anxious to begin using my Adam's sealants and watching to see when their mini-Americana wax becomes available. Since this is a DD for me I would not need to buy the large can of wax as sealants have always provided me with good protection. I have to say I was impressed with the ease of use of the Adam's Finishing Polish. Looking forward to the switch. Below pics shot with Nikon D700 with 50mm/1.4 and 24-70mm/2.8 lens.

Suggestions needed for a soft paint vehicle
gapwedge replied to gapwedge's question in Paint Correction & Polishing
Well, I used the GG 6" orbital using the white pad and machine finishing polish. All I had on the paint were swirls with no scratches. And with the car paint being soft I tested a quarter panel. Once satisfied I finished the entire vehicle. After the polishing I could not see any swirls so I sealed. No wax. -
Though the body was "detailed" at the dealership when I got it home and ran my fingers lightly across several sections it was clear the car had about 4 years of contamination. After washing with blue Dawn liquid dishwashing detergent to remove the dealership wax I clay barred the entire vehicle. Some areas required a second pass. After washing it again I carefully inspected for swirls or deeper scratches. No scratches, but obviously there were swirls everywhere. Knowing that Lexus paint is 'soft' I opted to use the whitle pad with Adam's Finishing Polish using my new GriotsGarage 6" orbital beginning with a quarter panel to test. The Finishing Polish did the trick so I did not need to use the Correction Polish/Orange pad. Once the car was polished I buffed and applied liquid paint sealant. Since I don't have the Americana wax yet, the sealant will be my last stage. Obviously, this is my daily driver so I am ok for now with no wax. I am new to Adam's products switching over from Z's products and I have to say I am impressed with the ease of application. At Subway today and someone asked how I liked my 2014 Lexus. They were shocked to hear it was a 2010 with 50,000 miles.

do i need a machine polisher?
gapwedge replied to gregory's question in Paint Correction & Polishing
Plugged in and used my new GG 6" orbital yesterday for the first time! After claying I inspected my '10 Lexus ES350 and decided to go ahead and use some left over AIO polish I had using the white pad. After buffing, I then used another clean white pad with Adam's Finishing Polish. Using a machine definitely speeds up the process. Loved it. Once I complete my detail I'll post some pics. -
To be honest I have been and still use Zaino products. However, I have been phasing them out and switching over to Adam's (over $200 worth of products so far) for a couple of reasons: I recently bought an orbital polisher machine, their forum, and for their customer service. I am looking forward to trying their products. Very impressed.

Best pre-trip / bug treatment products?

Nice tip. Thanks. -
A Personal Thank you to Adam's
gapwedge posted a question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
Customer service for the most part has been in decline for both large and small businesses for several years. Today I experienced some of the best customer service ever. I had ordered some Adam products that obviously required sprayers to perform as described. The sprayers were not in the shipment so I emailed Adam's inquiring about them. Not only did I get a handful of sprayers, but Adam's added 2 new utility towels and a bottle of detail spray. All of this was overnighted. A hand written note was also enclosed apologizing for the error. Tell me that is not a company trying to keep your business! They went beyond what was expected. So, THANK YOU ADAM'S!! Incredible. -

As a photographer those are some excellent shots. Nice looking car! -
They are also good to stand on for extra reach.

I've got foam knee pads I use in my photography work. Yes, they are a life saver for the knees.

Thanks Jerome.

Thanks Mac....I will begin searching today.

At 61, I am not fond any more of getting on my knees or bending for any length of time. Now that I am getting an orbital the lower side panels will be a chore if I don't find a better way to work. Do any of you have detail stools and if so where should I begin to look for a good one? Thanks in advance from a geezer who still likes to detail his vehicles.

do i need a machine polisher?
gapwedge replied to gregory's question in Paint Correction & Polishing
Thanks Mike. I contacted Phil at Dealers Domain and ordered the Uber back plate for the Adam's 4" foam pads that will be compatible with my Griots 6" polisher. -

Where can I buy a 4" back plate for the 6" GG that will work? I really don't want to invest in their 3" maching until I get comfortable using the one I am getting today.
