you are correct, everyone buys the same base gasoline, which meets federal standards. BUT every brand does in fact add their own additives to the base gasoline if they want. this is all done either before, during, or after the transport truck pumps it into the station's storage tanks. here's a quote from the link i posted earlier:
-
i'm currently using shell in my cars, because a lot of the stations around here i can save 10 cents at the pump if i use my Kroger Plus Shopping Card (not a credit card, just a card that collects points based on the groceries i buy). $1 spent on groceries at kroger = 1 point, and 100 points = 10 cents off per gallon of fuel at Shell. i don't know if i can really believe this whole nitrogen enriched mumbo jumbo though. i would have to see an independent lab test done on it to see if it is truely superior. the shell stations around here are notorious for have more expensive prices, between 0 and 10 cents more per gallon. but the shell station i go to is usually only a couple cents more than the base gasoline found at the kroger fuel pumps.

i go by the motto of not even owning a credit card. these cash back deals suck people in, and if they have one bad month, guess what? interest charges! i prefer to just use a debit card, and charge it as credit at the pump so i don't have to enter a pin. the money comes directly out of my checking account everytime. as for best fuel to use, i like this technique: http://www.vettenet.org/octane.html you basically switch top tier fuel brands every 5,000 miles. each company has its own detergents to clean the engine, well those detergents do not clean themselves over time. so what you do is change brands and the new detergents will clean the old detergents out because they think the old detergents are "gunk". i like to take it a step further and use Lucas upper cylinder lubricant every oil change as well.

Caring for Factory Vinyl Stripes
Z71_Denali replied to Team Adam's's topic in The Adam's Detailing Library
i used peanut oil to remove some overspray on my vinyl stripes, because the clay bar was not getting it off. peanut butter would work also (smooth, not crunchy!). just be sure to tape off the paint because it will strip any sealant on the paint! -
this one is getting a wash early tomorrow morning. it'll be my first use with the grit guard bucket/caddy and merino wool wash mitt!!! don't let that reflection fool you, it hasn't been washed in a month, and gets driven daily by my wife with several days the past couple weeks in the rain! thank you APW!!!

How do you store your Microfiber Towles?
Z71_Denali replied to itsjer's question in Towels, Brushes, & Accessories
i use a cardboard box that i got a shipment of Adam's stuff in with the top flaps cut off for my towels, and several 6-pack beer bottle holders for my other stuff! when i have more space than a one bedroom apartment i'll get a storage bin! this stuff literally takes up 2/3 of the shelf space in my closet! -

Best way to clean off exhaust soot?
Z71_Denali replied to Diesel350's question in Wheels, Tires, Trim, & Undercarriage
try this: 1) let some APC soak on it for 5 minutes 2) scrub it with a disposable scotch brite pad/sponge 3) rinse 4) use some 0000 steel wool in a circular motion around the tip 5) rinse again and towel dry it with either a MF or paper towel 6) metal polish on an applicator pad 7) buff off with a MF towel this is what i do to the outside of my chrome tips minus the scotch brite pad and steel wool part; i use the fender well or wheel brush instead i kinda prefer the inside of my tips to be black -

-
i was only able to eat 3/8ths of it and i was stuffed! i normally can finish about 3/4 of one with nothing extra on it!
-
I just made my mod to the Junkman's Dagwood Pizza Mod now! Went to the store and got a Digiorno STUFFED crust 3 meat pizza, some pepperoni, salami, canadian bacon, and pork sausage. HOW TO: Engine Bay Detailing
Z71_Denali replied to Team Adam's's question in Wheels, Tires, Trim, & Undercarriage
that seems like a better technique... i wouldn't want to leave the engine running for too long wasting gas. i'm a pretty slow washer, and a pretty slow detailer. takes me 20 minutes to do a once over with DS on my camaro. but then again my wife calls me OCD when it comes to cleaning the cars! she only wishes i put that much attention when she makes me clean the bathroom! -

HOW TO: Cleaning Wheels & Tires
Z71_Denali replied to Team Adam's's question in Wheels, Tires, Trim, & Undercarriage

Microfiber lint...what am I doing wrong?
Z71_Denali replied to goincd3's question in Towels, Brushes, & Accessories
i always run the washer on a rinse cycle once with nothing in it before putting my towels in there; gives me time to spot clean them in the sink with some APC. when i get ready to wash them, i use woolite, and i always take the towels out when the soapy water is draining from the washer. i never keep them in when the washer is spinning the water out. then i throw them back in and rinse them 2 or 3 times; taking them out when the water drains until they don't feel soapy anymore. after that i hang them to dry on the shower rod in my guest bedroom overnight and guess what, no lint haven't had to boil them for any reason yet... my wife says i spend more time cleaning the towels than i do cleaning her car -
it would look better with some 18" Metal Moto wheels and 35" BFG all-terrains!!! that gives me an idea for 30 years down the road
