  1. Hey VG, you're wanted at the bar! Glad to see you made it over!
  2. He's got 952 friends! He must have had some traffic at some time!
  3. If my garage was that organized, I'd live in it!
  4. I wonder if anyone has had as many jobs as I have had in this lifetime?! I am now a computer guru. Left Motorola in 1999 and started my own company. Haven't looked back since. That's why you see me posting at odd times of the day and night.
  5. Oh man, did you ever just tell your age! Now & Laters was the candy to have in church when I was a kid! Welch's? That is still one of my favorites although I can't drink it like I want with all that sugar in it. A paper route in San Juan Capistrano. Man did you have it good as a kid! When I lived in Cali from 83-91, that was one of my favorite places.
  6. It's funny that you say that. I have distinctive and fond memories when I smell Amor-All. Although I don't use the product anymore, I spent a many hour back in the 80's detailing my cars. Life was simpler then and the smell of that product sometimes takes me back to those days. I wonder if I will develop those same types of memories with Adam's products. The scent is definitely there to impact the memory process and I'm detailing my favorite car, so 20 years from now I would like to think that the smell of grape Kool-Aid will take me back to the days when I first discovered Adam's products. The story has yet to be told, but I'm along for the ride!
  7. Ah yes...a garage drain the size of a cinder block makes washing in the winter time a breeze!
  8. One thing that you should keep in mind when using a product like this is that it should only be used in very light dusty situations. It should NOT be used on a dirty car if you're trying to keep your ride swirl free. Using it on a dirty car with one towel will scratch the paint up something hideous. If your microfiber towel has very noticeable grit on it after one swipe, then your car is probably too dirty to use this product unless you use a bunch of towels to do the car, flipping it on every swipe to a clean section. These type of products work best when used in a situation such as a garaged car in a relatively dust free environment. You may come out daily and do an entire wipe down. This will keep your baby looking showroom spotless. Driving the car for a week or in the rain with bird bombs all over it is not the time to use these products. Remember, the more you rub on the paint, the more opportunities you open yourself up to scratches. The microfiber towels that Adam's offers or similar are the ONLY towels that should be used with a product like this. The crap they sell at the auto stores are no where near equal to the Adam's towels and will scratch your paint up (you can tell you've bought a crappy microfiber towel if the tag is sewn into the seam). They also do a lousy job spreading the product evenly without streaking. A lot of folks think that they are buying some quality towels when purchasing a bag of these things from the auto joints but I'm hear to tell you that you're wasting your money on them. Click here to see the real McCoy. Your paint will love you for it.
  9. The only thing I smelled was grape juice! Yummy! Yep, if it works this well with the oil pan, just imagine how good it will be in your wheel wells!
  10. "Should I buy one?" That was a question that I asked myself. I looked at the price and said, "Hmmm... that's a pricey bucket." I already have plenty big buckets because I have cats (cat litter buckets are nice!). "Plus, what is this Grit Guard thing that they are pushing?", I thought. I probably wouldn't have got one but I recently had an opportunity to try one out. I think the reason these buckets are not selling like hot cakes is because people don't really understand what the Grit Guard system is all about. If the purpose of these buckets were clear, they would sell like crack. Let me enlighten those of you who may have some questions. I washed my car the other day. My car never gets filthy on the outside because I refrain from driving it in the rain, and I usually wash the thing like 3 times a week. Before I dip my microfiber mitt into the bucket, I have rinsed the car off, and I have soaked it down with a healthy soapy concoction from my foam gun. Only then do I go to the bucket. I use the two bucket system. One bucket for soap, and then one for rinsing out the mitt before I put it back in the soap. This keeps the grit that I remove from the car from getting into the soap (so I thought), and then creating scratches and swirls all over the paint as soon as I wipe the mitt across the paint again. This point in the car detailing process is where the scratches and swirls are created most. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, check out these pics: Here's a shot of the Grit Guard bucket after I've finished washing the car. Notice how there is still plenty soapy water in the bucket. In this picture, I've dumped most of the water out so that you can see how clean the water is. The two bucket system helps keep the water clean and makes my soap go a lot further. Now here comes the shocker. I dump all the water out of the bucket. The Grit Guard plate stands about 2 - 3 inches above the bottom of the bucket. Because of this, my microfiber mitt cannot scrape the bottom of the bucket. Why is this important you ask? Because this is what I found sitting in the bottom of my bucket: Needless to say, I was shocked. It looks like I just got through washing the bottom of the car or something. There is enough grit and dirt in the bottom of this bucket to scratch my paint to hell and back. Using my two bucket system may help, but I realized that it wasn't 100% because I used 2 buckets to do this wash. For those of you using 1 bucket, I can just imagine what is being scraped across your paint while you are washing your ride. This was enough to convince me that the Grit Guard system is not the gimmicky, expensive, fancy bucket that I though it was. You are looking at proof that it works. I am totally sold on how effective these things are. If you could care less about your cars paint, this is not the bucket for you. For those of you who want the swirl free paint, especially those of you who have dark colored cars like me, you have got to add one of these to your arsenal. I mean, look at that picture again. That could be grinding across your paint every time you wipe your mitt across it. With the Grit Guard, you can do double duty by purchasing a second Grit Guard insert for your rinse bucket. As you rinse your mitt, you would scrub the mitt across the guard which helps clean the mitt by releasing any grit to deposit in the bottom of the rinse bucket. I like having it in both buckets because I'm kinda anal like that. By the way, the caddy you see under the bucket is a nice addition that Adam's sells. The Grit Guard bucket even comes with a lid to ensure that it is clean when you go to use it next time. Should you get one of these? Only if you want your paint to look like this: Or, you can continue riding around like this! It's all about the image you want to project! Oh, you can get your own Grit Guard bucket here. The Junkman
  11. Okay, I'll give it another go. But if I break or strain something else, get the guest room ready because you're adopting me!
  12. You don't have to use a buffer but it is a lot quicker and easier on the ol' ball and socket joint. At my age, stuff is starting to get hurt a lot easier. I stressed my thumb by opening 3 packs of Coffee-Mate at the same time. Can you believe that? Now I'm scared to have sex!
  13. I would think that this would cause swirl marks as abrasive as those sheets are. One thing you must do is look at your paint in enough light. This is the problem that folks have when they think that their car is swirl free, and the first bright and sunny day that comes along reveals the truth to them. Sorta "sheds some light" on the problem if you will. Do this: inspect that area you use the sheets on in a car wash bay at night. Pick a good one with some really bright lights. Look at it at various angles. Tell us what you find out. He's a picture of what a tire shop guy did after he got out of my car and commenced to wiping his greasy finger prints off my door handles with one of those red shop rags: After 1 pass with the Adam's swirl and scratch remover: As you can see, the swirls came out with no issue but at the same time, it gives you an idea of how closely I inspect my paint and I would think that those shop rags are not as abrasive as a dryer sheet...I think. As you can see, I get my nose all down in it!
  14. The old saying that "if 1 X is good, 2 X is not necessarily better" should be used when applying to car care products. If not only for the fact that you're wasting product, most of the time the product isn't given enough time to break down and when it comes time to wipe it off, the only thing you end up with is streaks, and more swirls from rubbing so hard trying to remove the excess product. Follow the product instructions to the letter. Remember, it may take multiple applications before the imperfection actually begins to disappear.
  15. Thanks Adam, and thanks for having me! I look forward to finding out what Adam's products can do as the attention to detail in customer service is unlike any you see in today's business practices. When a company takes this much pride in serving their customer, it reflects the scrutiny that must go into the development of its products. It takes special individuals to work for company that strives this hard to live up to the motto, "the customer is king". Count me as one who is proud to be a customer!
  16. I have some APC (All Purpose Cleaner) so I will be putting it to the test too. I have just the car to test it on too!
  17. What part of the US do you hail? I'm in Kentucky, are you close?
  18. So close you are! That's definitely a C5 but not a Z06. I personally painted those calipers myself!
  19. So... I'm under the car changing the oil and I'm looking at all the oil left behind the last time I changed the oil and didn't tighten the oil filter tight enough. I didn't realize that it looked so bad: So, while I was up under there, I thought that this would be a good time to see if a little product that I had from Adam's was worth the bottle it was packaged in. After all, I'm a firm believer in whomever does everything, cannot do one thing very well. We have seen what Adam's polishes can do for your paint, but what do they know about undercarriage care? Thus, I broke out a bottle of their Invisible Under Carriage Spray. Keep in mind that this products is made to use on your wheel wells and such but I was curious to see what it would do on the actual undercarriage. So I liberally sprayed the area that was soaked with oil. I was in no mood to be scrubbing anything this evening so I just let it soak in and rinsed it off with cold water from the garden hose. This is what happened: Now, a picture is worth a thousand words so there is no need for me to say anything. But just imagine if I had actually picked up a scrub brush and halfway tried to get it cleaner. Plus this stuff smells so good, I wanted to drink it. You know how bad your engine smells after using some of the crap they have on the market (especially Gunk Engine Cleaner)? No more of that crap for me. Oh that's right, I wasn't going to say anything...
  20. You've got very respectful bugs! If you keep a good coat of polish on your car, the bugs won't be an issue if you remove them right away. The key is to keep polish on the car and remove them right away. Did I repeat myself?
  21. Light colored vehicles do hide some imperfections better than dark colored ones but until you've seen a finely polished light colored car up close, you won't realize how good they can look. Don't let the color fool you. Light colored vehicles can "pop" just like the dark one's can.
