Are you a crazy neighbor detailer?

Team Adam's

Question

Honestly, my neighbors think I'm crazy.

Apparently, the following things I do are "weird":

  • Detail the car on jackstands - every time.
  • Polish and wax the INSIDE of my wheels.
  • Wipe down all the visible drivetrain components - with Detail Spray.
  • Detail at all hours of the day - I've been known to detail past midnight.
  • Use that "pink" stuff and not the "more manly" crap from Pep Boys.
  • Machine polish my side view mirrors.
  • Run the extension cord for my PC through a belt loop to keep it off my paint.

:help:

I've detailed while wearing a kilt. I've also done some of those very same things listed. I've even run air through my driveway before detailing to get rid of any loose leaves from blowing into my garage once I've begun. Um, yeah, I'm probably the crazy neighbor...detailer.

Well, I feel much better about myself knowing that I'm not quite as crazy as Jason. I think, though, that my neighbors perceive me as an all-around crazy car guy, as I've seen them shake their heads at me:

• Washing the car in 35 degree weather

• Washing the car even though rain is clearly coming... sometimes you still need to jsut get the big stuff off

• Swapping out my summer and winter tires, both sets of which are on identical factory alloys

• washing the barrels of the wheels while the wheels are on the lawn

• the occasional leaf-blower drying

• painting the brake calipers

And of course it goes without saying that these activities can take place anytime from 6AM to midnight. The noises that they hear at other times -- when the garage door is closed -- must be left to their imaginations. :D

Oh, and you should have seen the looks of wonder I got when I removed my entire Corvette interior to swap it from light oak to black and install sound deadening and frost king throughout. I think they called my wife to see if it was time to have me committed.

It is becomming apparent from this and a couple of other threads that it is time to start a support group for all the folks addicted to Adam's products and apply them in peculiar ways. Perhaps we should call it AA (Adam's Anonymous).......:lolsmack::lolsmack::lolsmack:

I think this forum is the support group...

"Hi, my name is rich and I've been driving a dirty car for 14 hours..."

I have a neighbor that is, although a nice guy, very boorish and dry. He and his wife were walking by one day and he made a remark about all the time I spend detailing.

With a straight face I told him "it keeps me out of the casinos and the strip clubs." His wife's face turned red (I think they believed me!) and they continued their walk.

They still look at me like they think I'm from Mars...

Wow I thought I was bad but you guys put me to shame.

The most I do is taking off the license plates before starting the wash and putting them back on when the entire exterior is done (lots of dirt gets trapped behind there); and jacking the car up about 3 feet all around for the detail so I can get behind the wheels easier, do the tires evenly, and not break my back on the lower half (this part is for the vette only).

Also while it's jacked up I put the car in neutral and rotate the wheels so the logos on the centercaps are all facing the same direction.

That's too funny. :lol::lol:

Several months back I got to work, parked the truck and got out to go inside. For some reason I turned around to look at the truck and found that both center caps on the drivers side were sitting there as if they had been turned to be upright and straight.

Odd thing is throughout the day a couple of people commented on them being straight and wanted to know if i had some kind of spinning center caps, that always sat upright.

No, just a weird day and the center caps were aligned...
