Universal pad washer

Let me start off by saying I LOVE this product. It's by far the best purchase I've made. Anyways, I did a detail on my car this weekend and while I was washing my pads I started to see black plastic on my pads and floating in the water. I took my pads out and seen This:

This piece is what sits on top of the grit guard and cleans/scrubs the pads. When I was cleaning my pads, I was only using my machine at speed 2. I don't know why this piece of the pad washer started to crumble.

Has this happened to anyone else?

We are sending out the broken part, and FYI, here is feedback from the MFG:

 Hi Adam,

We have a complete parts list available with dealer pricing or you can just direct people to us.

The only parts that wear are the extension or the actual Grit Guard Insert. A few people have lost parts, a couple were boat detailers ???

Retail price for the extension is $5.00 each plus USPS shipping.

It looks like your customer was either running the pad dry with a lot of pressure or it was a wool pad and he just ran it too fast......

Next round, keep the machine speed down, and it should last forever!

Thanks Mook, Dylan. Yeah that is way more than it looks by just looking on the store.

I watched the video when I got home yesterday too. I can't watch them here at work so I had to wait.

I can definitely see where it's going to be worth it more for someone who needs to clean their pads 4 -6 times a week but even if you only need to do them once or twice a month I think it would be worth it.

They also have a video on how to right on their site from the Universal Pad Washer people. Like Dylan says, if you are detailing for money, this is a WISE investment!

I have a question. not to be a *&^% but, is that thing powered at all or just a bucket with a grit guard type thing on top?

I'm asking because $135? I can buy the bucket at home depot for like $2 so?

oh and I realize you don't manufacture it so it's not 100% on Adam's as to what the price is.

Its a bit more complicated than that... cleaning all the pads I do after shows and my own personal detailing this thing would be worth 2x the price. Saves SO MUCH TIME!

It's more than just a bucket with a lid and grit guard. There are guts underneath the grit guard that help make it what it is.

You attach your pad to your PC, then insert it into the Universal Pad Washer.

KEWL! I've been wanting to get one. I've just been doing the APC method which works, eh, so so. And now that winter is coming the temps are beginning to drop so I want to do all three cars which means, very dirty pads.

Looks melted to me which would point to a lot of friction/heat.

Wouldn't know. My new approach to polishing pads is to toss them after one use. Saves APC, and time and the results with a new pad speak for themselves.
