Removing thick stickers with a rotary or DA?

davidg

Question

At work we have to remove some shelf signage that has been stuck on with 3m foam centered (the white, instead of black) double sides tape. Is there an easy way to use my polishing gear to remove it? It's on black painted metal. The metal has to stay decent so sand paper is out, but bug and tar remover and a razor blade just is taking too long. :help:

I was actually digging around in the store for a 3m pin stripe eraser. That would work pretty well. I'd rather use machine removal over chemical removal. (Or a good mix) When this goop gets wet with adhesive remover it just gels and makes a huge mess.

Have you tried heating them yet? A hairdryer or heat gun can loosen the adhesive, then use the 3M Adhesive Remover to take off what's left.

This is what I would do, but I would stick with a hair dryer.

I bet you guys didn't know that I had a hair dryer.;)
