  1. Beauty!!  I too recently did the same move.  Black is surely a test of tolerance!!!!

    Congrats and best of luck!

Any mods planned?  That thing would look KILLER with some big meats wrapped around black wheels.  Little lift.  Nice bumpers and LIGHTS!!

  2. I'm just teasing you.    Call it whatever you want.

If it was in my garage it would be a "car".  I think, technically, it's a "crossover" but that's a mouthful.

Oh, totally understand the teasing! All good.

I was asking sincerely... as you are right.... 'SUV' or 'crossover' is a mouthful. And I agree...the Cayenne isn't a truck. But since I tow with it, to me it's a 'truck'. Though, it handles, brakes and goes like a sports car!!

  3. The reason MBs are run so often is because they are successful!

The challenge is how to keep people interested.

    • Leverage social media and allow people to build MBs. Add a button on the shopping cart to "Submit For Mystery Box!" For their participation, they are entered in a drawing for gift cards, product, and grand prize is a visit and on-site detail by Adam himself! Preferably before winter.
    • Two versions, $40 "Mystery Box" which has a guaranteed value of $75, and a $10 "Wild Card" box which could have ANYTHING. Whammy boxes contain sample bottles, air fresheners, mugs, and are limited to ONE BOX per customer. So for $50 you get a regular mystery box, and a wild card box.
Just a couple ideas I have.

    Great ideas!

  4. golf balls and Frisbees for you :) WHAMMY

You could really light the gamblers up by giving more jackpots and also equalizing that with a few WHAMMY boxes where you aren't guaranteed a certain dollar amount.

That would surely be a fun Mystery Box round lol

WHAMMY!!!! I'm thinking of Anchor Man and Champs coined word.... 'WHAMMY!!!!'

Are either of you thinking the same??? LOL

  5. I don't blow dry, but I use Detail Spray when I towel dry.

I find that blow drying alone just isn't fast enough to stopp spotting and streaking most of the time.  What I do is quickly blot the whole car dry, then blow out cracks and crevices, then a quick wipe down with spray wax or detail spray to get the spots.

I only blow dry cracks and crevasses of the vehicle. I found that blowing an entire vehicle dry can often take longer and creates water spots (especially when blow drying well water).

I use the pooling method to dry and follow up with MF and diluted Rinseless.

    Thanks guys!

I too ALWAYS use Detail Spray as a drying enhancer.

  6. Hey guys....

How many of you still wipe the car down after you've blow dried?

Do you find you NEED to due to streaks/water trails?

I'm asking cause with my Toro (electric) leaf blower, I find I NEED to do a final wipe down with detail spray to get rid of any trace of water 'smears'.

So, many on here have suggested I blow dry my new black truck to minimize how much I have to touch it. But I don't see how blow drying is helping me with anything besides getting water out from the crevices.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

  7. Crazy busy in that my schedule is pretty topsy turvy and fairly full. but I can usually find time to do Saturday or Sunday project eventually

I just can't say every other week I'm gonna detail the truck or even once a month... I've only actually washed the bike completely twice in 20k miles, but people usually think I spend lots of time detailing it cuz I keep a kit on it with 'spray polish' and micro fibers and do a quick clean on it while I'm waiting on other folks to show up and other stolen moments

If I can create a process where every 3-4 months I can lay down a super tough base and wash it and "tune up" the base.

Tough enough that an occasional trip thru the car wash won't kill my paint... That's what I'm hoping for.. Never dreaming that it's gonna be a show truck... Just looking good almost all the time. Kinda like Adam's daily driver video with a little extra love...

Matter of fact lemme go watch that again.....

I feel ya bud. I'm curious what folks are going to say about your car wash idea. Lol

  8. I own a black car, and I love the just-detailed look. With black cars, it's ALL about prep and protection.

Here's what I do to keep it in tip-top shape.

    1. Strip it down to the bare paint using best techniques outlined by Dylan and Adam's videos.
    2. Apply two coats of sealant.
    3. Apply two coats of Americana
    4. Quick wash with Rinseless (There is no such thing as a "Wipe Down" on a black car. The sooner you realize this, the less pain you'll endure)
    5. Full wash once or twice a month, follow up with G&G to maintain protection.

This provides about 6 months of excellent protection, 9 months if garaged regularly.

Gotcha. Thanks bud!  Here's what was done:

    Clay bar

    Bucket wash

    G&G

I expect to do a LPS soon.

  9. Less contact is better, I know the urge and feeling you get when you just want to do a touch up, but on black paint you just can't do it.

In italics is a perfectly fine regimen - continue doing it.

In non-italics is where you are getting your micromarring - you need to eliminate the wipedowns in between GDWM washes or traditional washes.

    I don't think I'll be able to eliminate my mid-wash wipe-downs. Lol.

  10. Hold up there professor. You drive a Porsche yet don't think a ceramic coating is worth the price?    A good one costs like what.....$80 for the kit.  Especially if it'll save you from having to polish a black car as often? Def do some research then, it'll save you a world of headache. :)

Lol. Just because I have expensive cars, doesn't mean I don't value every dollar and evaluate the cost/benefit justification.

  11. To O.P.

What wash method are you using? Perhaps a rinsless wash (GDWM for example) with a lot of towels is the best option. This was your are not introducing dirt back to the paint.

Whenever I wash I use the GDWM with several towels. Unless I hit some rain, then I always power wash rinse, then proceed to GDWM.

And if I really hit serious weather I do a full bucket wash.

Otherwise, I'll do little spray and wipe 'sessions' in between washes to keep her on point

  12. Phil,

    Looks GREAT, nice photos!  :2thumbs:

She looks good.....You gotta LOVE black!

Hey, thanks guys! I'm really loving this 'truck'. I'm absolutely blown away by how it performs. You wouldn't realize you were in a 4900lb SUV!

And then dress it in this mean looking black, glossy, shining black paint!! HOT DAMN!

  13. Phil,

Just going from past experience with my black Corvette coupe.

An alternative, where you may still get "some satisfaction from wiping with soft microfiber" would be to blow dry with Master Blaster Sidekick, and then perform a final wipe down, with Detail Spray on the surface to protect and enhance it.

I have done both methods, and they made towel induced swirls and scratches, a thing of the past!

    Phil,

First off, beautiful car you have there! Secondly, owning a black car is constantly a learning experience but from I have found to work best is what Robert stated. I would wash it, blow it dry with the Sidekick and then spray the panel with detail spray. The detail spray will add a lubricant to the paint so you are not as likely to scratch the paint. I always dry with Detail Spray or use H2O Guard and Gloss. If those don't work for you, let us know and we'd be happy to help you and figure out what works best for you.

Below I linked the Sidekick Blaster if you'd like to look at it, if you already have it great!

    Sidekick Blaster

Thanks guys! I also always dry with DS. Though, I rarely do a traditional soap amd water wash. I mostly do Rinseless.

I've actually performed the blow dry-final wipe, before. I like it but find it takes more prep/stuff to set up. But I understand the reccomedation.

    Thanks!
