  1. Believe it or not I've found many situations that the PCP and Orange foam finishes very well on soft clear coats. Especially if you work it til it completely flashes eliminating the PFP all together. I've had no kidding "show car" results.

     

    I just finished doing my car today. After a pass with finishing polish I found some small scratches that I wanted to take out.

    So I grabbed the correcting polish and Microfiber pad and was impressed with how easily the scratches came out, but was really impressed with how it finished. At the time I was thinking that for a lot of cars that would be enough. It was better than I had seen on some show cars (but I scored better).

     

    But seeing I was working on a show car I pushed it up some more first using the finishing polish with the microfiber pads, and another pass using foam pads with the finishing polish.

  2. I do not trust reviews but do find them useful. The reason I do not trust them is there are to many variables in detailing.

     

    What is the skill level of the reviewer? A really good detailer can get excellent results from almost any product by adjusting technique and someone that does not have good technique can get poor results from an excellent product just because they don't understand how to use it.

     

    What is most important to the reviewer? I don't mind taking longer and more passes with a compound that is less aggressive to get the look that I want, while for others the time is an important factor. I may take a week to get my car where I want it while others may have 2 or more cars they need to do in a day. Is a compound polish bad because you can't get that great look in just one pass on any car?

     

    If you are going to compare to another product are you just looking at a single products or a whole system (like Adams). If its a whole system its only the final results that matter not comparing each step with other single products. I see lots of reviews where someone has taken a single part out of a system and compare it to others.

     

    The only reviews that I trust are the ones that I do myself. We all have different goals, tools, products, and abilities. 

  3. I always wash between uses, reusing just seems kind of "iffy" to me. I don't have the revitalizer, so I just use the old method of Woolite in the washing machine.

    I do much the same. I have a plastic bucket that I put the used ones in until there are 10-12 to wash. I wash the single soft's separate from the black towels. (OK I so have one gray single soft) I only use Woolite to wash them.

  4. shoot, my G80 in my 01 went kaboom with 35's.  When I bought my 08, first thing I did was dump the G80 and installed a true trac

     

    Something must have been out of wack  -- the local GM trainer has a G80 cutaway that he keeps with him and the design is really very simple. I have always found the G80 to be a solid diff. We are always moving cars and trucks when it snows and the VAN's would not move without the G80. If you still have the one you took out I will take it.

  5. You will love the Silverado. I am driving them all the time and they are great driving. The 2WD with the G80 locking diff diff is a great combo and keeps the truck a lot lower. I have found them to work fine in the snow and Ice. Most people that 4WD don't really need it.

  6. When was the last time anyone had to pull out a key and put it in a lock cylinder to open a trunk?

     

    Funny you should say that -- I did yesterday on a new Chevy Spark that I picked up on a dealer swap.

     

    It has just a dumb key.

  7. I looks like Rich and I are about the same age. When I started driving gas was 24.9

     

    The only thing I would add to his list is that radio in the car which might have FM didn't work on DC.

    They had vibrators to make AC to power make the the radio work AND they the radio had tubes in them.

  8. I got the manuals to keep my ASR33 working properly, which was hooked up top my first home computer and I could use its paper tape reader to load the programs. 

     

    I still have it hooked up to a PDP-8 with core memory.

     

  9. The sad reality is that dealerships are much like a franchise, and GM doesn't dictate what is sold in the parts department. They can't force us on every dealer... we reach out to as many of them as we can but many times we have a heck of a time making headway with them.

     

    If you happen to see him again feel free to let him know that we are sold in the National Corvette Museum, and the products that are used to prep every Corvette that rolls off the line in Bowling Green. We are certainly not "out of business".

     

    I was at my local Chevy dealership today and they had never heard of Adams. Is there somewhere that I can point them so they can start stocking products and how they should order them? I know the owner and he has 3 Chevy stores that me could get product into.

  10. This made me think of the fastest that I ever had a vet up to. Many year ago when my 85 was new I was young I wanted to see what its top speed was (they were a LOT slower then). What I found was that it would do 158 with the headlight off and only 156 with them on.

  11. I went through this a few weeks back. I had my car out for the weekend and one night a bird got the roof. I washed it clean the next morning but when I got home I could see the marks in the clear coat.

     

    I used my PC with 4" pads on speed 4, with Swirl & Haze remover. It took me 4 passes to get ALL of the marks out. What I would do at the end of each pass is wipe the area down with IPA and take a look using a good light. Once I was happy that I had gotten it all then I put some wax on.

     

    Just take it slow and easy on each pass and keep working the area until you have it all. Having a good light helps inspect the work area.

  12. I got my copy of Blue Bars (The Official Publication of the National Council of Corvette Clubs) today and sat looking at the Corvette on the cover today and kept saying where I have seen that car.

     

    Then the bell in my head goes off that that is Rich's 2013 427 60th ANNIVERSARY EDITION CORVETTE, and I see it on the bottom of all his posts.

     

     

  13. It was great to see you there Ken.

     

    One correction

     

    I had 1st in class and and 2nd in the people's choice for best of show.

     

    It rained while I was driving to the show so when I got there I had a lot of cleaning to do. Actually it raind for of 5 different time and then the bright sun came out.

     

    What I used:

     

    WW to get the car clean.

    SBG (yes I still have a little of the spray glaze left) on the paint and wheels

    Lots of SVRT on the black plastic, .under the hood and tires.

     

    I did hand out a few sample detail sprays with Norms tags on them, and showed a lot of people the SVRT because they saw that I didn't have run on the tires when it rained while getting the car ready.
