  1. I usually do 3 passes per panel... And always at least 1 in each direction ("North" & "South")
  2. Thanks guys. I'm definitely not looking to spend 20 hours on an interior, exterior, or combined. In theory I'd like to get a "medium" sized job done in an evening (Meaning strip washing, drying, waxing, tires/trim, interior spruce up in ~4 hours) If I have customers interested in claybarring & polishing, I would save those for Saturday mornings, but would still like them done within the day. Honestly, around here I don't know that there are many people that are interested in spending $250+ for a vehicle detail.
  3. Thanks for the advice guys... Interior is probably my biggest concern. I don't at all mind doing my own, because I usually keep it clean, so it's easy to do. But cars that spill pop/coffee/etc and have messes from children are time consuming to clean, and can get difficult. I have spring plans of painting the house and redoing the landscaping, but after that, I should have some decent time available to start!
  4. So I've been tossing this idea around in my head for a while now and am just wondering what the professionals here think... I have a full time job that I'm pretty committed to from 7-4; but otherwise my evenings are mostly free. (Single w/ no kids at the age of 26) I'm considering getting the word out that I'm detailing vehicles on the side. I used to do this when I was in high school and college, and usually spent my week home during spring break detailing cars; but that was 5 years ago. Then, I would just do a simple wash/wax/interior cleaning. Usually not clay barring and never polishing. I think I have a fairly good name in town (only about 10k people), I'm fairly involved in the community; and they all know I'm a car day that usually has a ridiculously clean ride. So I'm just wondering what advice any of you have to offer? I'm mostly curious how many people in a town this size would actually pay decent money for a paint correction. When most see the extent I go to to have a clean car, some simply shake their heads. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!
  5. I used mine for the first time last weekend, and it probably lost 10 brissels just from the front two seats. Is this common when they're new? Or in general? TIA...
  6. Looks awesome. Just wondering here, but why'd you use Metal Polish on the wheels? Don't they have a clear coat on them?
  7. Do "dirt beads" count? I "adamized" my quad last weekend, and it started raining on us this past Saturday!
  8. Ain't that the truth... The doublewalled box that came with my PC is a poor man's (Read: my) "detailer bag". lol
  9. Aventador is still my favorite...
  10. Kind of sounds like a fine line between going slow enough to be effective, and not overworking the polish. I have a difficult time deciphering when the polish is actually "worked".
  11. I guess I'm still a newb... I thought the Leather conditioner was only supposed to be used on leather... Guess I'm going back to do the door panels and dash this weekend For the record - It was my first time use (Tuesday night) and my leather soaked it up quickly (compared to what I'm used to). I'm chaulking it up to my leather being dry and abused beforehand My biggest issue was how viscous the conditioner was... More than once I didn't have it all the way down to the hole when I went to apply, giving the "empty ketchup bottle" effect.
  12. Haha... I watched the videos - and I think I had the pressure about right. The pad was rotating at ~ 1 rpm. I didn't find anywhere in the videos the speed at which to move the machine. What can I say... "I wanna go fast!"
  13. You can buy two double softs off the site though, for $24.95
  14. I think part of my issue is the speed at which I polished. I did make 4-5 passes over the same area, but they weren't ultra slow passes. Perhaps I'll go back and do it more slowly next time. I pulled the SS out into the sun when I was home for lunch. This is the rear hatch. It kind of looks like this all over... Not horrible, but far from perfect.
  15. Is this an all or nothing trade? I'd love the have another double soft - and I have an "extra" quick sealant.
  16. Holy quick response. Thanks Dylan, I'll try get some pictures tonight using the flash. Is there anything special I need to do differently with the PC to clean the gunk out?
  17. I was very excited to try out my new Porter Cable on my TBSS. I had already done a mild paint correction a few months ago with the hand applicators. After a few passes of all 3 polishes, I'm still finding quite a few scratches in the clearcoat. I taped off a place for a comparison. Sucky iPhone pic, I agree, but it's all I have... The "taped" section is about the width of the reflection of the light... Hopefully you all can see it. I had no luck photographing the scratches still there. So my question is... What am I doing wrong? Do I need to go over it a few more times with the 3 polishes? Am I not spending enough time on each section? Have I reached the limit of what the PC can do? Am I being too picky? I did clean my pads about halfway through the truck with the pad cleaning brush (over the trash can). I'm not sure how clean they actually came - in the video, Dylan uses a Flex. On speed 1 with the PC, it hardly vibrates enough for any noticeable debris, and definitely doesn't spin at all. Thanks in advance.
  18. For those of you that have done racedeck... How do you like it and how does it hold up? Any thing you don't like about it? My biggest concern is with a big rain storm, water sometimes enters under the garage door (albeit not very much). I read one guy saying water can get trapped under the race deck floor and can cause mold. Anyone have any experiences with that???
  19. After watching the Adam's Harlem Shake video (hilarious by the way) youtube suggested this... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaliWjVKwnA]How to Wash and Detail Your Car - Part 1/2 - YouTube[/ame] I knew I was in for a treat when the first thing the guy picked up was an absorber lol... Some of his practices are ok (2 bucket system) but some are just silly. And a lot of the comments made me giggle too! So what detail videos have you guys seen that made you shake your head? Post here... Should be funny! *Edit* Interestingly they use a Flex in the section video!
  20. As they say... Good thing about detailing a car that's never been washed... No swirl marks!!!
