Boosted
Are these cars for sale in your part of the world? I hope not. The NZ government signed a trade deal with China, We are getting bombarded with cheap stuff. They even make my favourite peanut butter over there now, tastes too sweet:( A lot of our manufactures are ditching their plants in NZ for China. http://www.caradvice.com.au/73523/great-wall-sa220-sales-crash/ http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/hot/alerts/chinesetoothpaste/dgstatement.asp
Marylander
No Chinese-made cars on the roads here yet, but I think they're coming. Sadly, they'll probably sell well, knowing that so many people here won't see past the low prices.
mc2hill
It's not something I have seen. Maybe our crash test and emissions requirements keep them out? I know Mahindra has been trying for several years to get their truck into the US.

I recall Mattel having to recall products around the world because of lead in the paint and poorly constructed toys made in China. Must hurt their reputation. I also remember awhile back an Asian country (Guam?) labeling their good as made in USA because they are one of five U.S. territories.

whiterp199
For comparison here is a smart car. Not that I would get one but watch the passenger compartment when a car is actually engineered for safety. Fast forward to 45 seconds in. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WMvLxOXcLU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WMvLxOXcLU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Isn't they a bunch if lawsuits going on over that crap too? I have been to China and I would not want to eat anything from their water after seeing how polluted it is. I imagine the simpsons three eyed fish came from China. Team Adam's
To this point its been hard for China to manufacture like they do and still meet our (USA) NTSA/DOT standards... I'm sure they're coming, but I don't look forward to it. Vehicles is still one of the few INVERSE trends in the USA - China trade stream... they love our cars over there. The second they start sending cars here we lose the only advantage we had in this relationship.

Ok, drywall from China makes NO sense to me. The largest gypsum mine on earth (10,000 tons a day) is about 20 miles from me as the crow flies. All that gypsum is then shipped to drywall plants in the New England states and Texas.
Team Adam's
There was a news article not so far back where an entire development somewhere was built using contaminated Chinese drywall... families were getting really sick and no one could figure out why. When they found out the the entire neighborhood had to be evac'd for decontamination. Not sure how it ended up, but last I heard the developer was chapter 11 and the families were pretty much left holding the bag for the repair which is just insane. The Chinese factory gets to enjoy some measure of immunity from legal repercussions.

In Florida, it was discovered that the cheap Chinese stuff had something in it that would come out of it and literally rot the copper lines in the houses. HVAC is packed with copper. It was REALLY bad. My parents have a home there and were lucky enough to build it before this was an issue. Chris
