up north in the rochester NY area, dibella's is where its at for me. they make their own bread and such and are so good and juicy.

The bread? Verrry important! DiBella's sounds like they definitely know what they're doing. You found a good thing!

This thread is making me seriously hungry.:banana::banana:

B/T/W, nice C5!

Welcome! I like mine with cheese and Texas Pete.

Hot sauce, there you go! Ever try one with a jalapeno ketchup? Hot/sweet delicious.

family business since 1918, always kept their shop traditional, even today(and their homemade cookies are amazing haha)

they were bought out by wendy's i believe, but they kept the whole staff the same. i think wendy's saw the potential to expand this great franchise, but they didnt have the financial side of it.

Yo Philly! Nothing like a juicy, meat-filled cheesesteak! True story...Sister lives in Perkasie PA and I drove out there last spring in search of a side trip to Philly for a genuine cheesesteak. I went to one of the "famous" joints and was sorely dissapointed. It was so bad I do not remember the name but there were two - right across the street from each other in the historic part of town. It came on a glorified hot dog bun and the meat was so dry and lean, it was almost tough. In addition it was all bun and no fun. I got jipped! :loser:Anyways, welcome to our detailing obsession. Please offer a good cheesesteak alternate go to place for when I am back in town.:2thumbs:

Sounds like you were at Pat's or Gino's. They both stink, in my opinion. They are down the street from Jim's Steaks on 4th and South, arguably the best.

Perkasie is right up 313 from our shop. Next time you're in the area, let me know. The Perk has good food, I am friends with two of the chefs there.

Eric knows his steaks! We usually leave Pat's & Geno's to the tourists and haunt our favorite spots. For me, it is Jim's (4th and South Streets), just a six minute walk from my front door. But I'm adding the Perk to my 'steak list too.

Thanks for the welcome!

Of course, there are a lot of local places in and around Perkasie that are good. V&J Pizza (if you are near Souderton, just off of 309, in the Souderton Shopping Center (Rt. 113 and 309) if they are still there...

And of course, the one, famous in the area

Pudge's Steak and Hoagies<img style="display: none;" class="tsch-whlchr" alt="Station is accessible" title="Station is accessible" width="14" height="14">transparent.png

1510 Dekalb Pike

And now...my top three in Philly...

1. Jim's, 400 South Street (10 minute walk from Liberty Bell)

2. Dalessandros, 600 Wendover Street in Roxborough, Philly

(the place where I had my very first steak!)

3. Tony Luke's, 30 East Oregon Ave., South Philly

Yum!

Don't forget Steve's Prince of Steaks on Comly and the Blvd, Chinks Steaks, Wit or Witout, Chubby's (across the street from Delassandro's), Campo's. The steaks are even good @ the Reading Terminal Market, forget the name of the actual shop.

Honorable Mentions:

Steak and Hoagie Factory is ok, thing is they're open all night and have a bunch of locations. The Works is good too. Lee's Hoagies makes good Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteaks, order "en fuego" if you like em really hot like I do.

Yes, my brothers and I consider ourselves cheesesteak connoisseurs and try just about every place we can if they are questionably good. If anyone wants to meet up for steaks any weekend, call me! I'm down for trying a new place.

Hey Steve,

First. welcome to the forum, you'lll find a great bunch here always willing to help, and more than occasionally pretty dang funny.

Next, I was out in Malvern the other day and stumbled on a place called John's Pizza on Lancaster Ave in Frazer. He's got plaques all over the place stating "Best Cheesesteak in Philly"--for more than one year, and I have to agree. It's worth the trip, and at least as good as Pudge's and Jim's!

Eric, you're right about the tourist traps Geno's & Pat's--too much hype, no substance. But it IS fun to try all these places, isn't it? And years ago I had my own parking spot at the Perk...

Thanks for the welcome Bob. John's Pizza sounds good.

I paid a call to Jim's the other morning and it was great as usual.

Late morning weekdays is a good time to go with not much waiting. Weekends are crazy busy there and if you stand in line too long, your clothes wind up smelling like a cheesesteak "wit."

;)
