musclejunkie
I am going to attempt my first engine compartment detailing on the '11 Mustang. What are the do's and don'ts as far as what areas to protect with a baggie and not get wet? I'm going to use 50/50 APC and Boars Hair brush. Thanks amigos. 0 Chewy
Don't spray water directly at and under pressure at electronic components. If you have an open element air filter then cover it. How dirty is it? I use a spray bottle of car shampoo and water to clean mine. If they're greasy, then APC is great! I did my P/U truck and covered nothing. 0 musclejunkie
It isn't too bad - just mostly road dust. Maybe the blaster would be a better alternative? In Adam's video #6 he says the new cars aren't as bad as the older cars. I'm just a little paranoid about spraying water around in the engine compartment. I also know enough not to spray a hot engine.
0 Chris@Adams
If its just dusty cover up areas like Christopher said, hose off & blow dry with air (I use my Master Blaster) then all you may need is DS.I f the DS don't get it then I would use APC. After wiping down with DS go over with SVRT and In & Out Spray!
0 Team Adam's
Just don't use high pressure and your fine. A little aluminum foil or plastic bags to cover open element filters, battery terminals, or other things that might be sensitive to water and you're good to go. Modern engine bays really aren't all that susceptible to water related issues. <iframe width="853" height="510" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/JdHX_wPUKZI?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
0 Chewy
Do NOT use the aluminum foil on a battery. I know that sounds like a stupid thing to say, but there are people out there that would do it!!!! I don't blow dry my engines for fear of driving water somewhere, but if you're careful around the engine area, it'd work great.

0 Redvenm
I spray down the engine lightly with water in my 2010 F150 just to get wet. Spray APC where needed, fpray off using fire hose nozzle but certainly not at high pressure. Finish off with SVRT and In & Out where needed. very simple, I don't cover anything. 0 Paul Mitchell
Your Mustang Owner's Manual will show you exactly what you need to cover prior to washing the engine compartment. It's under the heading "Cleaning". If you don't have the manual handy you can download it off the internet.

0 texn884
Look at my post under engine compartment after 80,000 miles. I foamed the engine closed the hood and washed the rest of the car then rinsed the engine off then detailed it. Because Race Car!

0 BlueGenCoupe
I normally, cover any filters or electronic devices. Lightly mist the engine bay with water, sprits down with APC, scrub it down, lightly rinse off the water. I then Start the car, and let it sit idleing for 15 20 mins while I wash the rest of the car. If its not really dirty and your affraid of ruining sumthing, use waterless wash

0 musclejunkie
I'm a little concerned about using APC in my engine compartment. There are a lot of painted surfaces (APC is not good for paint) and the block is aluminum. I don't think APC is good on aluminum either. Maybe a 50/50 dilution would be safer, but still worried the aluminum could turn black. Should I just foam it with Adam's Shampoo then hit it with the boars hair and a light rinse? Sorry to turn this into a science project.
