garner
Finally had some time to start cleaning up my heep...I mean jeep. This is going to an ongoing thread so don't think I'm done with just today. This is what I started out with, overall it was pretty clean but still had some exterior stains from mud. First thing to get cleaned was the fender flares, which are pretty rough. I started off with dawn and water in a spray bottle that I scrubbed on. Then when it dried, I went back and used Adam's APC on them. This is the end result. Not much change, but I'm starting to believe that one of the previous owners had painted them. garner
Next up was the interior. The floor pans were covered in mud from getting stuck offroad, as well as a layer of baby powder from trying to find a water leak. To protect the remaining carpet I just folded it up under the back seat Afterwards I took the hose inside and used a cheap walmart car wash brush to break down the layers of dirt which left the floor pans pretty clean, and a little rusty. Gotta love this part of jeeps Next up was the door panels and dash/console. Along with the vinyl seatbacks which had some residue from carrying a set of tires. Here I just ended up using the dawn and water again to break down unknown layers of body oils and dirt Then I wiped it down with some microfibers The rest was of the plastics were just dusty so I sprayed some more dawn on a microfiber and wiped everything down Last but not least I tackled the top with the APC so it would be ready for VRT later on. garner
Right now I'm waiting on parts to finally fix the interior leak. Once I have those, I will start tackling the carpet and cloth part of the seats with more adams products. At that time I will also go over the plastics again with adams interior cleaner. The rest of the exterior I am not going to touch as it will be sitting at a transmission shop for a little bit, but once it returns home I will do a full adams wash and polish on it. Dwhite0960
If it will be in the sun at all when sitting at the shop I would def put some sort of conditioner on the vinyl/plastic interior to help protect it from the elements. If you have time I would go ahead and take the fender flares off before it heads to the shop and recondition them when they are doing the tranny work so you can be happy when she gets back and you put them back on, it would make it easier to polish as well if you are planning on that later. I have. Friend who swears by his rhino liner floors they spray out easy and keep a nice shine when wiped down, he used the store brand stuff you apply yourself it was a pretty easy process he took the seats and console out. Not sure how far your trying to go on her but you can make them look much better for not a bunch of cash with some homemade labor

If one were to do a spray in liner, my recommendation would be a Line-x. You could even have it sprayed to match the yellow. I have had a Rhino sprayed in liner on a previous truck and didn't care much for it. Current truck I have a color matched Line-x and have been very happy with it. Here is a thread that I started when I had mine done. blcksilv08 and Kingsford

mc2hill
Nice work so far! You may want to look in to vinyl restorer for those fender flares or maybe even trim paint. They look like more than a dressing can fix.
Kingsford
I love my Line-X. Wouldn't think about getting something else. That faded plastic can sometimes be fixed on Jeeps using a heat gun. Neat little trick, look it up and be careful around the paint if you do it.
garner
I considered bedlining the interior, but for my use it was just too much cost wise. If it saw a lot of offroad use then I would strongly consider it. The flares I'll probably just pick up some trim spray from autozone so they at least look better than they do now. Once I get the transmission fixed, I'm gonna try to sell it on consignment at a dealership I used to work for. Hoping tax season will bring some buyers. If not then I'll do more to it detailing wise while making it my daily driver and keep the mustang garaged.
dyn0mitemat
For the plastic trim mix boiled linseed oil and isopropyl alcohol 50/50 and wipe it on a few times. I've used this trick on my 98 ZJ (grand Cherokee) and my 96 XJ since they have alot of black plastic on them that likes to fade, as well as my 09 JK I had. Works wonders And I've had great luck with monstaliner as far as doing jeep tubs, there's a 500+ page on jeepforum with people raving about it
garner
Well $2200 later, the jeep should be back from the transmission shop this coming week. Then I can throw the carpet back in and clean it and the seats
pirahnah3
well that isnt the end of the world at least for pricing. Have fun having fun with her.
Bill-V8V
Curious as to the use of Dawn on the plastics and vinyl. It has always been my understanding that Dawn is extremely harsh on plastics and it could be causing a good amount of the discoloration you are seeing on the fender flares. But I could be wrong, i'm not a pro.
garner
well that isnt the end of the world at least for pricing. Have fun having fun with her. It was about $700 more than I was hoping, but the shop threw in upgraded parts and I had them swap the transfer case and differential fluids while it's there. Plus they offer a 3 year/75,000 mile warranty on it too. I'll probably drive it for a week to put some more miles on it(only driven it about 3,000 miles since I bought it last Feb) and get an oil change at work. Then it'll go on craigslist to see if I can sell it during the tax season rush. Curious as to the use of Dawn on the plastics and vinyl. It has always been my understanding that Dawn is extremely harsh on plastics and it could be causing a good amount of the discoloration you are seeing on the fender flares. But I could be wrong, i'm not a pro. I just used the dawn first since the Jeep is so old and I figured it would help remove any dressings from over the past 15 or so years. I think I'll end up replacing the flares anyways since they're relatively cheap. Edited January 24, 2016 by garner
