Polishing over metal badges

Tape over them (3M painters or auto performance), at least any sharp edges if not the whole badge. If you don't, you run the risk of damaging the pad (been there!). You can then use your machine polisher, assuming you have one, to get closer with less worry. And/or you can hand polish around them using one of the hex grip applicators.

All the badges make me consider a micro polisher more and more.  The cost isn't horrible since they're dremel tool driven.  I've been seeing them and one of these days I will add one to my collection.

 

In the meantime, I carefully go around them with the polisher.  If I need to, I'll break out the nano since it's a little smaller to control for badges that tend to be individual letters.  If it's a single badge, I can usually work pretty well with a regular polisher.
