Truck is back from paint...

Recommended Posts

I finally got my truck back from being at the paint shop for the last 6 weeks... here is what I had done.

Complete new paint - 2 tone, PPG Metallic blue and House of Kolor Orion Silver with a heavy HOK blue pearl on the silver.

Separator graphic has real silver leaf and HOK metallic charcoal... pin striped hood and tailgate. Painted dash cover, and A pillars (silver to match)

Shaved the door handles

actuators installed with remote open

New mirrors

Welded and molded roll pan in

New gaylords tonneau cover with remote open

New 2pc 100% billet wheels - replacement for my old set (new updated design) the wheels look chrome, but they arent, just factory polished.

The rotors look rusty, but the brake system - wilwood, has maybe 40 miles on them, and sitting in the wet paint booth they got a little rusty - plus the truck was towed back to my shop - but the first drive around the block will fix that. Also, the grill is reflecting banners in the background.

here is a rear shot with the new billet wheels... taping off the truck getting ready for its first new detail.

And this is the motor we put in - still not done - couple of weeks before we can start it...

427 LSX with TVS 2300 SC... meth/N20/more

should have around 750RWHP.

Truck will be a feature vehicle this year at SEMA, it has taken me 2 years of build time... ugh, but the end is in sight.

now if i could only convince Dylan to come detail it for me

ADAM himself should come detail that beauty for you! Beautiful job!! Good luck at Sema!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Adam detail my truck??? that would be like asking the president to come to class for career day... not gonna happen lol.

thanks for the compliments guys... there are so many things done to the truck you cant see - performance stuff... the list is long and extensive - so i wont bore anyone, last count - over 100k :(

I spent 8+ hours underneath the truck detailing the undercarriage... spraying UC spray on MF towels (the crappy costco ones, not the good AP blue ones lol) and I am still not done... on my second bottle of UC spray too!

Im just not sure what I should use for the exterior paint for the first time... I have some of the new paste wax coming later today or tomorrow, as soon as Joe unloads his truck - hurry up joe!!!!

oh and before I get the onslaught of why i did so much performance stuff to a truck... im 6'8" 300lbs and as hard as I tried to fit in a Z06 that day at the dealership, it just didnt work... so I built a truck to be as fast a most z06's lol... with traction (HA!) i should have a mid 10 second truck :xfingers:

So the paint is 60 days or older right? I just want to make sure you don't wax or seal new paint. Nothing more than machine polish and revive should be used IMO.

I spoke to my painter and yes while it is best to wait for all of the solvents to rise up out of new paint... I have only applied buttery wax to the right side bed and tailgate... I will wait a few more weeks... but I will be doing a machine polish to the entire truck with some detail spray... would that be ok?

thanks for the heads up!

I was always told to wait as long as you can but that 30-90 days was a good time depending on the amount of coats applied.

I talked to Adam a couple of months ago about it and he said the same thing... WAIT! No wax or sealant of ANY type. Revive would be OK but it's not needed really IMO. Just keep bugs, poop, and any other debris off the paint which for you probably won't be an issue. I like sitting my stuff out in the sun to help speed up the process.

I had some motorcycle parts done up and I put them on the back deck to sit and bake in the sun. I could smell the solvents in the air around them. Kinda funny.

I'd just hate to see you ruin a high dollar paint job.

Have you thought about tinting the windshield? I bet it would look even MORE bad *** with it all dark too. Not to much mind you... Maybe 30% or so...

ok question... i used machine wax on the tonneau cover (after i machine polished it)

1 side of the bed and tail gate was machined polished then buttery wax applied... how do I strip the tonneau cover, tailgate, and bed side??

thanks in advance... i will also take your advice and park the truck just outside the shop to let the sun heat it up, and help the drying time.

The most common way to strip wax is to use dawn dish soap. BUT its harsh and im not sure how your new paint job would like it. I'd wait for one of our Detail Advisers to help answer this.
