Reaching the top center of your Truck

STex

Question

I'm 6'3" and still can not see or reach the top center of my 09 1500 CC Sierra (not lifted). I have an undercover cap on the bed. I can walk on it but prefer not to (would be to high) and still cannot reach the front of the cab from there. I do not have or like tube steps etc and using them can allow you to rub against the side of the truck etc...

So to wash/dry and wax cab top I found these two items:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_40558-12223-RM-P2_0_?productId=3112051&Ntt=rubbermaid

http://www.lowes.com/pd_146404-287-AP-20-MP6_0_?newSearch=true&catalogId=10051&productId=1017889&Ntt=146404&N=0&langId=-1&y=4&x=21&storeId=10151&Ntk=i_products&ddkey=http:LowesContactUs

I use the step stool for washing top, getting center of windshield...etc..it has a rubber like finish so you do not slip and is very stable and easy to move.

For waxing I use the low werner platform/bench ...can move up and down the cab top without having to get down and move the step stool.

If you only buy one, start with the step stool. I had tried other items but these are by far the best I have found. Hope this helps someone.

I am going to try that platform. only thing I have found to be and issue it the weight limit. I am 5'7" and a lil beefy. last thing I want it to be leaning over a car with a PC in hand and my footing let go. Most platforms and step stools I have found are rated 200-225lbs.....

I use the platform, I also use the platform to keep my pc and products that I'm using at the time, saves on the back.

Man, I am so glad I saw this thread. I am due to detail our new Tundra soon and I was thinking about this very thing. I know I can stand in the bed, but that won't help me with the front of the cab. I also will need to get the middle of the hood. The sad thing is that it is a stock truck. I'm just short! (5'7")

That werner is awesome! I use it for washing, waxing or any general usage where I need a stable platform. I will probably buy a second one so I can leave one on each side of the vehicle since it would be easy to get in a hurry and careless and have it scrape the side of the vehicle while you move it around.

When washing you have to be a little careful, it does get somewhat slippery with soapy water.

That is why I started the the tread. The trucks & suvs are so tall now (same ground clearence as my 90 sub, just a trend for taller/bigger macho look) that even at my 6'3" it is difficult to just clean the center of the windshield.

The platform is great for extened work but do not overlook the rubbermaid stepstool for guick cleanups or windshield work.

Standing on door sills just does not allow for a good detail wih claying/ polishing/wax etc...

I picked this up at my local woodworking store. It was on sale so I couldn't pass it up. Bonus is the small power strip that is built into the side.

That's pretty nice Scott. How tall is it? What is the manufacturer name?

I've used one of these for years. LARGE/FLAT top step is easy on your feet. The tray is big enough to hold almost anything you need to detail your truck.
