Here is my plan for doing the exterior of my new Acura. It's been on the road three months and been through one wash which didn't get it totally clean. It's my first time detailing a car beyond a traditional sponge and paste wax hack job and that was decades ago. Do I have the order correct? I don't have any polishing products/machines yet.

Pretreat stuck on bugs/tar with WW
    Clean wheels the Eco WC

Added step - Clean tires with T&RC
    Foam car with CS
    Wash car with CS
    Dry car - Not necessary
Clay windows and car - be sure to use adequate lubrication - DS (or equivalent) on the paint and GC (or equivalent) on the windows

    Added step - Final rinse
    Dry car with HGG
VRT tires  - and trim to help with removal of any errant BW
    BW
Seal all exterior glass with GLS

Do I hit the car with some DS after the BW or is the unnecessary and/or counterproductive? - Unnecessary step unless you really like the smell of DS ?

Do I rewash the car after claying or just rinse and go right to HGGRinse and go to H2O

Should I avoid getting HGG on my glass if I'm going to use GLS?  Redundant step but won't hurt a thing

The car has painted pinstripes. Do I avoid going over the pinstripes with the claybar or is OK to clay in the same direction as the pinstripe? Same question for when I get a set of polishers, can I run machines over the pinstripes?  Work gingerly around the pinstripes with the clay bar and avoid them with the polishers

I appreciate any input as I'm starting from zero experience beyond watching a bunch of videos.

    Enjoy the 4th!

    Input above in red.

  2. I'll agree that polishing glass to remove water spots and wiper blade patterns is a long tedious job.  I spent several hours working on my son's Jeep windshield a few weeks ago.  I used the SK Mini with the 4" MF Cutting Pad and a product from another company specifically designed for polishing glass. The small pad fit into the corners fairly well.  Unfortunately, however, I had to do a few areas I couldn't get with the SK by hand.  It came out great, but it took 4 or 5 passes on most of the areas to get it to my satisfaction.  All in, I spent close to 2-1/2 hours polishing and then sealing with Adams Glass Sealant.

  3. Welcome aboard, Bill. :welcomebanner:.  Nick gave great advice.  The kits are the way to go.  Once you find the products you use most often, you'll want to pick up some gallon refills and a funnel.  Adam's runs a great sale where you buy a gallon and get a free 16oz of most products.  Couple that with 15% off and free shipping, and you can't go wrong.   Another suggested purchase would be "The Stack".  These are my favorite "go to" for just about everything.               Oh, and just explain to your wife how much money you'll save on car washes now.

The Stack: Adam's Borderless Gray Towel 24 Pack

Thought a few of you might appreciate these corvette photos from the GM Heritage Collection. I went as an offered activity with the car show over the weekend.  I invited my dad to go with me and am really glad he did.  He told me the Mako Shark Concept sparked his love of Vettes.  Can’t believe he never mentioned it before.

I’ll update this post later with a link to more pictures. I also toured the COPO Build Center and took some photos there.

Nice work Ryan.  I love the way metallic paint pops when it's done right.

I'm in debt to my Mom for a similar Mother's Day present, minus the CC.  Just too darn hot this weekend to pay up.

  6. There is no need to wait to remove the Ceramic Coating and re-apply.  You can do it right away.  You will, however, need a polisher to mechanically remove the coating since it is now fully cured and can't be simply washed off.  If the hood is the only really noticeable area with scratches,  there's no need to remove the CC from the entire vehicle, though.

It's not an easy task, but on the upside, in the process of removing the CC, you'll most likely compound out the scratches that bothered you in the first place. ;)

Woo hoo, I made the 'big boy' list - number 8 on the post count Leaderboard!  No chance of catching Chris T. or Rich, but I am the only other active member on that list.

Congrats on the milestone, Mike.  Glad you're still active on the forum with the rest of us bottom dwellers.

  8. Welcome Eric.  :welcomebanner:

For added "pop" you'll definitely want to grab some Brilliant Glaze. It works well on White but the results on dark colors are off the chart.  You can use BG in conjunction with almost every other product, except Ceramic Coatings.  It can be applied over Guard & Gloss, Paint Sealant, Americana Wax, etc.  You'll love the H2O G&G.  Give it a try....you may be satisfied with the level of shine you get with that alone.   If not, a quick coat of BG will get your attention !

Honestly, I would gladly do that drive in my GTI for the opportunity to get some hands-on experience. How do I find out about the tent events?

There just happens to be a forum dedicated to that specific question.  Check out "Upcoming Events and Gatherings" on the home page.

  10. Used my SK Mini with a MF cutting pad to polish away severe water spots and wiper patterns on my son's Jeep Rubicon windshield.  I used a polish from another company specifically formulated for polishing glass since Adam's doesn't offer an equivalent.   Sorry, no pictures.  It started to rain just as I finished applying a quick coat of Adam's Glass Sealant.

The SK Mini and MF cutting pad worked great for this application.
