I just wanted to let others in on my experience of trying to ship my car across country. We recieved orders in August to finish my career off at sea. Moving from Virginia to San Diego. At that point I started off looking for an auto transport company. With two cars one getting 60 mpg I wasn't driving this uncomfortable thing.
I made reservations with Reliable carriers based off recommendations since originally I wanted it enclosed. I told them to meet me in South Carolina and they gave me a two week window. We arrived here visiting family and the two weeks came and went. I called them and they told me they extended the window out a month and a half....all without notifying me. Knowing we need to be there April 9th they tell me they'll pick it up April 20th. A call the next few days and no one answers the phone.
Ok, so I give that one up and contacted another company that was local. He tells me he can pick it up in two days. That came and he never showed. Call them and no one answers. Now, we are at the point of needing to start driving across country. I tried one last time with one more company. Safeway car transport stepped up to the plate. Mike Newson hooked me up with a transporter that within three days (March 27th) picked my car up. Although, it wasn't enclosed it saved me $1000. The driver seemed pretty good and knowledgeable. Long story short if you need a transporter give them a try! Now on to driving across country with a pregnant wife and cat in the back seat...This should be fun! Update: (as of today) Driving started and we are stuck or on hold in Memphis. Looking at the weather for our next stop in OKC looks bad. We have a giant Yakima box on our car and its like a sail in the wind. And it's tornado season....looks like we'll get some Memphis BBQ after all!
