  1. Dealership upsold me on an "induction service", cleaning of the carbon off valves and cylinder heads for $175. Seems pricy, but i feel its a wise investment. I also requested they install a new oil pump while they are in there. Price for the pump was $140, no labour charge since the oil pump has to come off to get to the cam. $355.95 after tax should be my final bill.
  2. Seems some people have had problems with the LS7 lifters more so than the DOD ones. I recall reading that at slightly longer pushrod can help the matter, as well as quieten the valvetrain. There are some guys on the forums running moderate lift cams, with longer rocker arms (more lift to the valve) with good results. Rick Crawford being one of the bigger gurus has done this, I believe Pat G as well is a big believer in custom ground DOD cams...
  3. I keep mine in my mechanical room in the basement. Have created shelves in between the studs and the container sits on the bottom sill along with my Gallon Refills. Prob around 60*.
  4. Haven't been fishing once this year, haven't even bought my outdoorsman renewal. Very sad, but thats part of the gig when you get married, seems every weekend has gone to planning...almost there.
  5. yeah so ive heard, if im in there wayy down the line, i'd likely go with lunati link bar lifters and ditch the plastic lifter tray, do a complete DOD delete etc, with 1.85 rockers. Just really bad timing for me right now, and don't have 1500 to throw at the upgrades. Such a relief that it is under warranty.
  6. Right at 60K miles (98K km). Really glad to have the warranty, especially when i thought it had expired. I must say that dealing with the dealership has been a good experience so far, Surgenor's in Ottawa. They seem to have always had a good name for customer service, and that seems to be holding true!
  7. Hey guys, little update. Had the car towed to the dealership yesterday morning. They confirmed it is still under powertrain warranty. They said they would get back to me on what they found. All bets confirmed, 16 lifters and camshaft are being replaced under warranty. No performance upgrades for me now, which is fine by me since i didn't really have the money for it anyways and hadn't planned on breaking into the engine anytime soon. Maybe headers and a tune next spring. Car should be ready on Saturday, in the mean time I am driving my grandpas buick Allure, I think i may Adamize it tonight (just a wheel/tire treatment, wash, dry, glaze, wax and clean windows).
  8. Love it. Love how the Bpillar retracts with the rear side window pane. I'll take the charcoal/black interior, but that exterior is something else. Pure luxury.
  9. Good idea, but in that case i would have to get a GM approved cam, and then what about tune, wouldn't the tune void warranty anyways?

    Free Funeral

wow that is amazing, would have loved to be there! I really miss having AAA in our hometown. The Ottawa Lynx were big back in the 90's when the Jays and Expos has solid teams, once Montreal tanked the fans stopped coming and our 15k people stadium eventually sat empty. Today we can't even fill it with a single A club, very sad to see.
  11. Chris, is the ls3 a direct swap? Other than tune (should be able to flash a A6 GXP tune to the E38 PCM right?) Aside from DOD, i don't see why it would bolt right up to the trans etc...
  12. beautiful car. Great work. I must comment on the wheel gap for the front wheels. Looks like those wheels need to lose some offset (push them out further) and be lowered. for a premium sports car that gap is massive.
  13. Agreed. If new cam was being going in I think it would have to be a performance one. Id likely just delete the dod and go from there. But right now, if dealer pulls through for me I should be good. Maybe just diagnostic fees.
  14. Thanks lads..made a post on grrrr8.net. have been in contact with crazy paul and rick crawford...butttt I took a chance and stopped by the dealer. Told me the prev owner bought the extended warranty and that it is valid until feb 2014 or 160k km. So he recommended I tow it in for them to look at. He watched video and said he doesnt see why it wouldnt be covered.... I did the screwdriver test and it is hands down confirmed cyl#4.
  15. Crappy day for me yesterday. On the way to work, in the parking garage, maybe 100 feet from my spot, I throw a CEL. Didn't notice anything odd about the car, and proceeded to park. Continued on with my day..left for home, started her up and notice a loud ticking sound. Drove home noticing it the whole way, never let up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNMI7k5Tmgs&feature=youtube_gdata_player This is a video i shot at home, idling. After spending the night, and a better part of today searching the forums and PM'ing the tech gurus, it seems lifter failure is the concern. Although it is just starting off now, and drives fine, i am scared to drive it with such a racket and possibly do more damage. My 5yr/100Kkm expired in July, will be swining by Surgeoners (Local GM dealer) to see if they will good will me some warranty since i am still under the miles and only off by a month. Likely won't come to anything.. So that leaves me with a few options #1: replace to stock at my expense, not sure on cost, but likely around 1000, and apparently stock cams are hard to come by. #2: get a new beefier (DOD)Displacement on demand CAM, tune, and replace stock lifters, pushrods, springs, gaskets etc Estimating around 1200-1300 #3: do a DOD delete kit, with normal spec'd gam and tune, along with rods, springs, gaskets etc. likely run me around 1600-1700 Unfortunately, money is tight right now, as i am sure it is with most, so i will be pulling this off the line of credit to cover the costs right now. I will be borrowing my grandpas buick for the next few weeks, seeing as how i am getting married on sept 7th, and really have absolutely not time to deal with this now. What are your guy's thoughts, a part of me really likes the idea of keeping DOD, its unique, and is a nice discussion peice, but if its going to cause me problems with my lifters then it might be worth it to replace now, rather than later. EDIT: please refrain from commenting on the dirty intake manifold. I typically keep the engine cover on and clean, and haven't cleaned under it in some time...tisk tisk.
  16. I've been told. Have since not been following the daily deal thread. Skipped the last mystery box too. Only things I really need are more towels, lug nut brush, bores hair brush and few nick nacks. Would love the new MF pads and polish system, but I bought the PC kit like 2 weeks before introducing the new stuff. 3 full bottles of SSR, SSHR, FMP to use up. May snipe some new MF pads and use the old polishes. I find i am having a tough time knocking out swirls on my G8, cleans up the haze very well, and about 80% of major swirling, but under my 500W work light they reappear, same with in direct sunlight...Need more time...
  17. I love D, gives great perspective of the topography!

    Road Trip

My parents took us on a roady down through Maine on route 1 back when I was like 13. Did Ottawa to Portland in 1 day, spent a few nights touring the area, then #1 up to Saint Stephen, New Brunswick, followed by a night in Saint Johns, then Halifax, NS, did the Cabbot Trail on Cape Breton Island, Took the ferry to Prince Edward Island, stayed in Summerside a few nights, then 14hrs back to Ottawa. Highlight drive was Cabbot Trail, absolutely stunning drive!
  19. Civil Engineering (im just a technologist) but do the same job for less. Land development design and project management. New subdivisions and commercial site plans, basically everything outside the building, Sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water supply and exterior fire protection, grading, stormwater management, plus contract administration and coordination.
  20. Congrats, I wish you and your family lots of love and good health.
  21. Garage : applicators and brushes (in a stacked drawer organizer), 16oz bottles of VRT, Detail Spray, Interior Cleaner, Leather condition, Glass Cleaner, Carpet Cleaner, In&Out Spray ect.on a shelf I made Basement: Americana stays on the slab, basement is kept around 62*, Gallons are on homemade shelves between exposed studs, I keep my tote of clean MF towels and polishing pads down here as well, I have one of those material "green" grocery bags for my polishes, MSS, Brilliant Glaze, also keep a 4oz APC and a spare 16oz detail spray in there. Car shampoo and main wash bucket are in the utility tub. 2nd rinse bucket (dirty water), stays in garage next to the shop vac. I use my winter rims (clean of course) spread out on the concrete slab to dry my pads and wash mits after being cleaned in the utility tub (think of it as a drying rack). I have a clothes line that I hang my towels on after theyve been washed. Car: 16oz Waterless Wash with WW towel behind the drivers seat (in the mesh compartment), 16oz Detail spray with WW towel behind passengers seat (in mesh compartment)
  22. please share! impressive results!
  23. Yes, clean paint beads, after clay/polish. A non clayed/polished car that simply got a bath will not bead. There is enough friction in the contaminants to keep the water in film form.
  24. Just switched up my background here at work, got my thinking it would be a neat idea to see what other sorts of pics guys are using. I can't take credit for this one, simple google search wallpaper, but I currently love the look of it! I'm on dual 22" monitors, and this is a print screen (obviously each monitor has a full image) Post up yours, please keep it work safe...this is a family forum afterall ;-)
