Boosted
Thought I would post some photo's from our last trip to the Great Barrier Island while I'm waiting to be picked up. We are flying on a Britten Norman Trislander When it lands I'm like . Great Barrier Island is about 90 km Northeast of Auckland and is about 40km long, about 15km in width and about 285 km2 A network of mainly metal roads (gravel) connect the main settlements, but a great deal of the island remains inaccessible except by foot or sea. There is no reticulated electricity on the island. Nor are there any street lights. Electricity is supplied by private generator or alternative power systems. Now for some photo's Britten Norman Trislander Airport Camp site Swimming Kaitoke Hot Pools after a hard day fishing:D Awana Bay Freeway - peak hour traffic:D Oruawharo Bay - Thats crowded, next beach please Kaitoke Beach Port Fitzroy Windy Canyon lookout

What a fizzer' date=' one of the charter boats engines is dead - luckily everything was booked via the charter company. Boosted
Very nice! How about the fishing? How is it/pics of catch? Not many people venture out there to fish, mostly tourists and campers. Fishing is amazing - bigger fish. There are a number of charter boat operators. When the warmer water gets near we go after marlin and big tuna. I don't usually take photo's while fishing, too busy fishing and drinking beer:D I had an accident previously with my camera going overboard. Dived in got it back and some crays but the camera was stuffed Teresa, this is what quads are for:D Yum crays

Doug123
Ew, the 'men in the grey suits'. Time to get back on board. Some of those shots were pretty dark, and using flashlights. How deep did you go? Looks like you have some feasting on fish!
Boosted
What the heck is that first pic?? I hope your are talking about the fish , it's a Kathetostoma giganteum or Giant stargazer. Found on the continental shelf around New Zealand. The first pic of the diving photos is of my mate off-gassing. The mask's lens is pushed up against his forehead . . . mmmmmm. Ugly, huh? Boosted
Fantastic pictures!! Those rebreathers you folks are wearing? Not seeing much in the way of bubbles.... Yeah, they are very good and very expensive:( My mates are ex Navy divers who now run a diving charter business in NZ. I came along to keep them company and to enjoy the diving. They gave me an intro to 'Technical Diving'. On a side note, my new camera should turn up later this week. The guys are going to try and get me into the Navy base to get some pics of my car (after detailing) next to our ships.

How deep did you go? Looks like you have some feasting on fish! You only have to worry about the big ones I was too busy trying to figure out how to sneak a giant cray onto the boat It's a marine park so NO fishing I didn't follow them too deep. They got down to about 70m or about 40 fathoms. This was my first dive with a rebreather.
Boosted
Wow. those pics make me want to buy a big sailboat and cruise around the world. We are lucky down here. Auckland is surrounded by water, it's called the 'City of Sails' http://www.auckland.nz.com/city-of-sails.aspx Fantastic sailing, fishing, diving, isolated islands etc. We have everything on our doorstep. In winter, the ski fields are only about 3.5 hours drive. We are coming into summer (December) and the big fish follow the warmer water in. I fish a lot from the beach with light tackle, 7' rod, light spinning reel with 1 to 2Kg or 2.2 to 4.4lbs line and bright silver lures. I catch love catching kahawai Every fishermans dream
