Ceramic Coating

Jim Blythe

Question

I am preparing my corvette for ceramic coating.  I have washed it, clayed it, did a paint correction, and to get the residue off I used detail spray.  Do I need to wash it again or just use the coating prep on it?  Also until you put the boost on it stays sticky do I have to worry about dust getting into the coating?

Hi Jim, Welcome to the forum!

You'll just need to use Coating Prep, and you should be set.

The dust shouldn't be a concern to get into the coating unless you're in a wood workshop or something like that while you're applying the coating, then I would suggest getting into a garage where it's least likely to be disturbed while it cures. Otherwise, dust shouldn't be much of a concern.

Your coating has to sit for a day to cure before you can use the boost.  The Detail Spray actually wasn't necessary.  So put your ride somewhere where it won't see dust or dirt blowing onto it.

I would use a good bit of coating prep, make sure you get all the DS off the surface,  it could interfere with the coating bonding to the paint

What Nick said. I’d even go as far as to say not only was DS not needed, but it was a mistake to use it. Coating prep is your best friend.  It’s probably my favorite product and arguably one of Adams most overlooked product for preparing a great LSP surface.

Yep, it's great stuff. To clarify, it's now called Surface Prep, just in case anyone is trying to find it on the website.
