Hello all. This is a thread that was a long time coming. The following pictures depict the paint detail I recently completed on a 1955 Chevrolet the belonged to my Dad. The car holds a very sentimental purpose to me, so needless to say, I didn't want to cut corners. The back story for those who do not know can click on the link on my signature where it says "1955 Chevrolet 210 383 Stroker". Here are the products I used in the detail:

My wife bought me this kit when I returned from Iraq for the third time recently:

Now, on to the pics. The car was clean to start with. It was washed recently and garaged kept. I carefully dusted the car and got started with claying. Although the car was clean, it was very rough. It sat out in California for two years after my Dad passed away and who knows the last time it was detailed before that.

Claying the car:

Note the dull and lackluster paint.

Now after claying but before rewashing the car. It was rewashed due to the amount of residue the clay bar pulled out of the paint

Now, it was time to rewash the car. I think my brother must of put some goopy tire dressing on the tires once upon a time. Need a compelling reason why not to use that crap? This was after I sprayed the hell out of the tired with All Purpose Cleaner and scrubbed with a brush:

All washed up, but no polish as of yet:

Time to get started! At this point, I was already using the White Pad and Fine Machine polish on this side of the hood:

Micro Fiber Towel wiping of the polishing compound:

I was running low on daylight, so this pictures were just of the car after the polish, but yet to be waxed:

Next post will show the waxed and sealed final product!

After spending a good part of the day polishing on Saturday, it was time to wax and seal the car today. Unfortunately, it was overcast today, but hopefully you get the idea!

After using the Machine Super Wax:

Now, on to the icing on the cake! Americana Paste Wax:

Next will be some pictures on a bright and sunny day!

The entire process couldn't of been easier. I followed Adam's instructional DVD and everything worked exactly how depicted in the video! I am a complete novice to detailing and I think the car came out phenomenal. Those that have seen the car in person previously will attest to the sorry state of the paint. Next steps will be to hit the wheels and brightwork with Adam's Metal Polish #1 and do up the interior. Special thanks goes to Adam's and their incredible customer service, Jason for his tips and advice and my wife for lending a helping hand. Thanks for viewing!

Awesome write-up and cool car!

Thanks! I plan on doing the same with my other cars when the time comes. Perhaps when I re-detail the '55 down the road, I will go with just the after pics. Since it will be upkeep for the most part here on out.

:iagree: Great story and a great car. Enjoy it! And thank you for serving our country!

Bruce

Thank you! My Dad was a complete car guy, but detailing just wasn't his thing. I think he would appreciate the TLC I put into one of his cars though.

And the pleasure is all mine! :patriot:

very very nice...and the more your practice with these products, the better they get. :2thumbs:

Thanks man, I am looking forward to it. This was a huge undertaking for a detailing noob such as myself, but Vol. 6 DVD really made it manageable and enjoyable. I can't wait to see what more experience produces!

LOVE the 55's! NICE!!!

I think some Adams Metal polish on those wheels though!

AWESOME!

Chris

Thanks, I recently purchased some Metal Polish #1 from my local dealer, just need to get cracking on the wheels and chrome!

Nice! Is that the original paint?!?

Not the original paint, but the paint is pretty old in my estimation. Pics belie how bad it really was. I'd have to call the owner before my Dad and ask him.

That is a FINE '55, and with a 383 stroker, WOW :). LOVE those wheels.

Thank you for serving our country! :patriot:

Can't wait to see the next set of pics...

Thanks Doug! I look forward to sharing more in the future!

Nice job! Nice car!!:2thumbs:

Now, that's a sweet looking ride:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Great looking car! Nice job!

Thanks fellas. It's nice to receive such positive feedback on my first attempt. Not only that, but with such rough paint that might not really show how far it really came in pictures.

Thanks a lot Adam! I just got some last week from Jason Toscano, so I would hate to take advantage of your generosity. It is sincerely appreciated though!

Incredible job!! What an awesome writeup and backstory on this one... thanks so much for sharing with us.

Thanks Dylan. I haven't seen you on FJ for a bit. How's it been going?
