  1. Looks like its spent time in a coal mine!
  2. No, I had a crazy busy day so I left before it went, it had about 45 min til it went when I decided I didn't want it so I bolted! lol But I did learn a lot, had my father in law meet me there in case I got serious with it. He's a gm mechanic and has been one for like 40 years!
  3. Well thanks for all your help guys I went down and checked out the vette today and decided it was a touch rougher than I'd be interested in. Plus it was not the original motor, but I learned how to find it so that's a win!
  4. Thanks, thought I noticed a random picture of a similar vette with a little name tag plate thing on the console that said it. Is that normal or added later on that one I saw.
  5. Ok, peeps, the wife gave me approval to check it out and possibly buy if it goes cheap. You guys know as much as I do on this thing at this point. Please help me try and value it. Keep in mind, I'm thinking buy, play with it, then potentially if I decide to, take it to barrett Jackson to sell in scottsdale if I think its worthy. So I need to buy it good so I don't get hung, lol! Thanks
  6. I kinda like those a touch better! My dad has a 59 resto mod, its sharp too.
  7. How does a person easily figure out if its a 390, 400, 435, 430? First glance what would you say its worth, I know thats a tough one to answer. Then, what would you say is a good buy. I think to assume its nonmatching is safest. As I doubt anyone will be able to figure it out that day unless they tell us.
  8. Looks to me that they seem to go for anywhere between $25k - almost $40k maybe more if its #'s match and immaculate. I looked at current bids on ebay and sale price on Barrett Jackson for that info.
  9. If I go, the way to approach it would be buy it with the assumption its not matching #'s, price wise, then hope it is! lol I do see it does not have the l88 hood.
  10. Haha, nice assumption there! Wish it were that easy. Trying to figure out assuming it is in good condition what it may be worth if its not an L88. So that if it goes cheap, I'll know it going cheap, lol!
  11. Haha true, not sure I can make it out there or if the wife will allow it but fun to think about . Wish I knew more details, I really don't even know how to tell if the numbers match in that scenario.
  12. Thanks Dylan, I assume its probably not an L88. Not talking huge money, but since its not really a car auction, wondering if it will go cheap. Seems like the M22 and the 427 make it fairly special, not crazy rare. But I don't study corvettes much. But still i dont know if its #'s matching.
  13. Theres a local small liquidation type auction place in my town tomorrow selling a car along with some other random things. This vette seems to me to be a rather interesting find. Its a 69 stingray convertible with a 427 m22 rock crusher. Though I cant tell from the listing if its #'s matching or not. It sounds like its in great shape but cant view it til tomorrow morning when they auction it off. Is this a rare valuable vette or just normal run of the mill. Basically should I take the time to check it out to see if it goes cheap? Haha! Its yellow with both black tops by the way, heres a pic, the only one.
  14. Must have been a buy 5 and get one free sale at autozone!
  15. That is odd timing! I'm sure its easier for me to give up the idea being that I've never owned one, probably hard to do once its in your blood. Just be safe.
  16. Haha Dave, no worries! Trust me this was no life long dream, I really never put too much thought into bikes, liked them, but never enough to own one. There was something about the one I found here in town that made me want one. Might have been an impulse buy. I still really want it, but I also really want to see my kids grow up! I must be getting old to be making decisions like this! lol 33 for the record. I don't even have many biker friends so I needed some experienced guys to tell me those things you all mentioned so I could make an informed decision. You may have saved my life. We may never know.
  17. Thanks again everyone! I have decided to put this idea to rest and maybe revisit the thought when I get older. Too much at risk. I will try to find another hobby or something. But I appreciate all the feedback, it basically helped me come to this conclusion.
  18. Wow thanks everyone! I got some very detailed feedback, and I appreciate that. Its easy to envision the fun that can be had, but we don't always picture the negatives in that dream. I can't say that I feel any better about the decision as of now, but I have new things to consider thanks to you all! When I said toy, I didn't mean to make light of the machine. I greatly understand its power and danger. But just was describing enjoying a piece of machinery as a hobby and to take pride in it. This decision went into a new level of thought for me. So thanks everyone for the great feedback!
  19. Thanks for that Vince, that was a real from the heart comment. It's a tough decision, the safety is the biggest concern for me. I still have some thinking to do.
  20. Good thoughts! I hear you on the stress reliever, with 3 kids 5 and under, plus I own a restaurant, I could use an unwinder. My other stress reliever is running/weight training/bicycling. Never hurts to add another out! I think I will be fine for a while with the 883, like you said, theres power adders out there if I get the itch.
  21. I hear you! I am going into this situation already nervous and aware of the risk. So I think it will stay with me. I am a family man, we do everything as a family, I go to all the kids things. So they will always be in my thoughts, I think that will keep me playing it safe. But generally with bikes, its the other drivers you gotta pay attention to. I really plan on it being a town cruiser, not many highway trips. My town is fairly small, not many roads over 35mph - 45mph.
  22. Haha, thanks guys, those were the responses I wanted to see! I know, its a great looking bike, and to be able to get a slightly used one for a touch under $7k seems like a great deal for a sick bike! Kind of a bare bones raw bike, they claim it as the anti chrome, which I like on bikes.
  23. Heres the link if anyone wants to see it 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 couple shots off the HD website
  24. UPDATE: To any new readers, I decided to not go the bike route, just too much to risk! Thanks everyone! So a local ad on craigslist had my attention. It was for a 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 matte black. I have never really been a bike guy but appreciated them. But this one made me really want one. The only hold backs are or course the money, it makes the wife nervous, and I have 3 little kids. I wouldn't want anything to happen to me for the sake of my family. But with all that in mind I would always wear a helmet, take a training course, and really only get it out randomly to enjoy, mostly a toy that I can take pride in and have fun on when its a nice day and I'm free. Plus I think to enjoy the harley lifestyle as a hobby would be fun too. Not to mention something else to clean up and shine! Speaking of which what could I use on the matte paint, anyone familiar with it? So anyone with an input or familiar with this scenario please chime in. I have been thinking it over for like 5 days, and went and checked it out today, that made me want it more, although it did seem somewhat intimidating! haha
  25. at first I was like, thats a really crappy picture of the van, can't tell where the scratch is, great reflection!
