GXPaycheck
What's the best type of lighting to use while polishing? I'm thinking of getting some halogens. Both cars are white and that does make it a bit more interesting.
0 Team Adam's
White shows microscratches, fish eyes, and hazing at the right angle especially in direct sunlight. White is hard to see the imperfections - if the light is too bright it'll just reflect back and be hard to see. Let me run around with a few different bulbs and see what's best. 0 Nitelord
Natural light. I need to plan my detailing so I have sunlight left when I'm done. It takes at least another hour to walk around and around to gaze at the finished product.

I bought one of these, and love it: http://www.amazon.com/Cooper-Regent-HSL600-Halogen-600-Watt/dp/B0009XEJLO/ref=tag_tdp_sv_edpp_i it's a halogen tube-light, and works fantastic! much brighter than the typical florescent lights. 0 Junkman2008
If you go to a do it yourself car wash, you'll find that the bay lights at the newer stations are excellent. I've been thinking about having 2 of those installed in my garage. I suggest you look into those. Right now I'm using the 5000 watt halogens. Not only bright but they'll heat you up too. 0 wcmclellan
Those lights that Adam posted about are great to use. When we remove engines from F-16's we use those lights in the engine bay to look for anything that may be broken or damaged. They provide excellent light. I have been shopping around to find one here to install in my garage as well.
