Ive been a long time lurker, and have completely forgotten my login which I created two years ago, so im not too much of a newb; but here it is:
09 black Z06, 4k miles, just bought it. Mild scratches here and there, and not too bad on the swirls. So, before you hang me, the only two products that are not adams, because I thought I could use them (thanks dad) were pinnacle heavy duty and fine swirl remover. So I knocked out most of the swirls with the fine swirl remover until today. I dont know what got caught under my GM car cover which is new, but it scratched a small portion of the hood. Watching the videos, I used the 4in focus pads on my drill and proceeded to remove the scratches with the above products. This equalled disaster. Not only did I not remove the scratches, but I created what looked like thousands of small scratches and swirls/hazing in the worked area. I then proceeded with a green then white pad to fix my disaster on the PC; better but not equal to the surrounding area.
The questions: Aside from throwing the foreign products in the garage and ordering the adams three pack of polishes, why do I see many people suggesting several or many passes of the swirl and haze remover instead of a few passes of SSHR? Is there any extra paint correction of the 4in focus pads on the PC as opposed to the traditional 6.5 pads? Needless to say, either the focus pads on the drill are not suited for my detailing level, or my Z06 said hell no to me, so im not going to even attempt paint correction with a drill again. This is my first black car, and I thought I was skilled enough to resemble Dylan, but I stand corrected.
