My SS Has Had Some Things Happen

THE Mook

Recommended Posts

Guess I will update this a bit!

I am starting the ball rolling this afternoon with the Transmission shop.  The Winter Wheels I have, (Euromax 942), I have just painted the spokes black, but kept the Chrome lip.  I still need to detail the Engine Bay and the Interior before I call the tow company to take it down there.  I also need to re-spray the front brake ducts, and pull the interior pillars for paint too.

Now, I didn't really want to paint the centers of the wheels, but the Mag Chloride stains in the Chrome have gone that far in, that I can't pull them out.  Instead of re-plating them, I went this route...

More to come soon, as I am EXCITED as all get out to get my truck back running!

I was going to recommend the 4L80E and then I saw you decided on one.  THAT is the trans the high HP guys are running in the G8 too seeing that the 6L80E can't handle the power and there's not a lot you can do to them to make them handle it.

MaverickMan has some REAL CF parts for the SS's too.

Yeah I would love an 80E.  Problem is, I don't have twice the money and then some to support it in my AWD application.  I would really LOVE a 6L!  This, once back together, will be turned into a strict show truck.  No more go fast parts, or minimal adds from here.  The goal is to bag all four corners and do an interesting two tone!

  • 2 weeks later...

Good Morning.

Sent it off yesterday to have the Trans replaced with a much beefier version of the 4L70E.  Last weekend, I took some time to clean up the Paint and Engine, installed the Winter Wheels, and otherwise took care of any little thing before I sent it off.  When I get it back, I plan on repainting the Front Brake Ducts, and also painting the Interior Pillars to match the Dashboard.

On the docket for that day:

  • Clean Wheel Wells with APC and a Large Wheel Woolie
  • Clean Engine with APC and A Boar's Hair Brush
  • Dry Engine with Master Blaster
  • Dress Engine with 60/40 SVRT/Water...Engine Milk Deluxe
  • Two Bucket Wash with Grit Guards, Two Wash Pads, Car Shampoo
  • Dry with Master Blaster
  • DS Wipedown with a SingleSoft Towel
  • Dress all Trim and Tires with either SVRT or In and Out Spray
  • Brilliant Glass the Glass

The TBSS has been sitting in my parent's garage since the first part of June, when the transmission left this Earth.  It wasn't super dirty, but I could see the neglect of having something sit for almost 6 months.  The first order of business was to replace the battery...LOL!

Notice the SEXY Headlights with projector lenses done by 303Motorsports (JD_SS).  I had these done to emulate the C6ZR-1 headlights.  Only set he will make like this.   :D

Hood down, time to start.

Really embarrassed I let my Engine get this bad.

Since I planned on changing the wheels to the Winter set, I left these alone.  I will worry about the cleaning/polishing/sealing of those this winter some time.

Lots of settled dirt.

After I completed the Engine, I began to rinse it off.  This Patriot/BG/QS Combo..."Facemelter with Cheese"...has been on there for I think almost a year now.  I may have slapped some APW down in the Spring, but not likely with the little time I have.

After I got it cleaned up, it was late in the Day.  IT should not have taken me 6 hours to do all of that.  However, not being around something I love so much for the better part of 6 mos...I took my sweet time!  A couple days later, the paint was now dry on my Winter Wheels.  They were all chrome before, however the winters here and their mag chloride drops have left them really stained.  I couldn't get that stuff out.  Therefore, I painted the centers!

Glad to hear you're getting yours back on the road Mook! And JD did an amazing job on those lights!! He did Dales (buddy I was with at Carlisle) but he just color matched his and did a smoked clear. But they looks awesome!!

Let us know how that trans is working for you!

Got it back!  Been driving it as much as I can.  Almost 400 miles on the new transmission and converter.  Everything feels STRONG!  One small issue with an O2 Sensor Wire coming loose and it will be all good until the Spring Mods!

Here's some pics from a couple weeks back!
