plasti dip disaster removal

Hello! I'm new here!

  I puchased my very 1st NEW vehicle once I got out of medic school in '17. I have a 2017 white 4runner TRD premium. I decided to "get rid" of the silver accents and thought I was going to a person that has experience with plasti-dip. (Has his own business doing this and uses it through a spray gun). Well, got it home and saw the disaster of overspray everywhere. I had someone come down to apply ceramic coating to my vehicle. (before Adams polishes) He got the over spray off. SO, my question..  What products would you all recommend stripping the crap off my vehicle? Please and thank you. My soul hurts for this not so good life choice I have made.. *sigh*😣

Plasti-dip sells a dip remover.  Its basically a high strength Goo Gone.  You can order that (not cheap but works best) or use Goo Gone.  The goo gone will take longer and more product to work.  You will also need access to a pressure washer.  However, if you just have overspray from not masking off the rest of the car, buy some cheap microfiber towel and it will rub off with some elbow grease.  Honestly, if you paid for this service and the guy did a poor prep job, make him clean up the car.  Guys like him give plasti dip a bad rap.  If he's an authorize installer, contact dipyourcar via the website or FB group and let them know.  They will assist in getting the issue resolved, the owner is actually an awesome guy, much like Adam.  If hes not an authorized installer, well lesson learned.  If th dip was applied correctly, it actually should peel off easier and better than vinyl.

I bought rims that were plasti dipped black and I used wd-40 and a pressure washer. I went through one medium can per wheel and let it soak for about 15 min before pressure washing. For the stubborn spots I used a plastic razor blade to encourage it off. It is not a fast process but did work well.

I'm a little confused, though. If the guy did the coating and removed everything, what are you trying to remove, and from where?

Plasti-dip applied properly works and looks good and it is usually rather easy to clean up when mistakes are made.

 

I wouldn''t let the person who had the overspray touch the car again - it is obvious there was no concern about the vehicle or customer, but I would find out if he's an authorized installer and send it in.   As for the removal, Dip Dissolver is best, Goo Gone followed and last WD-40.  If it peels off and leaves a film like a piece of tape would, just go with the WD-40 and it will come right off.  If you do need to use a plastic razor blade, I recommend a little Waterless Wash for the lube.

I had someone take off the over spray but left the area that I wanted plasti dipped alone. Now the actual area that got plasti dipped is peeling off very poorly. So now I want this completely off and I'm afraid to start due to not knowing how the hell its going to effect my paint and coating. I did look into you tube for dipyourcar and I purchased some dip dissolver from him. 

After I get his poo of my Runner I need to give it a good wax.
