When my wife was pregnant with our son, I worked nights, so I went to all the doctors appointments, Lamaze classes (great place for a nap!), etc. But it didn't really hit me until we were in the hospital delivery room and the nurse said 'Sir, you are going to have to move so we can put the baby warmer there".
