Fphillips reacted to BrianT in Pollen Wars
I treat pollen like a winter storm, don't touch anything until it's over. By the time I'm done washing I've got pollen on the car. I don't even bother anymore.

Could you wash clay and seal using wash and wax? Using the shampoo as a clay lube?

Fphillips reacted to Ricky Bobby in Rinseless wash question
No worries - any more questions let us know -
Only way the product can do too much is if you are asking it to remove mud caked on the car - you can pre-soak the vehicle with the garden sprayer which will roll the surface dirt off. Honestly besides that just be sure you are using multiple towels, working slow with little to no pressure at all, just let the towels glide and the solution pick up the dirt off the surface into the towel.
Once you get your technique down you'll love it.

Fphillips reacted to Ricky Bobby in Rinseless wash question
Yes after rain you can do a rinseless wash.
I do rinseless washes basically all winter long. Its all about pre-soaking and adding a lot of lubrication on the surface and using all clean sides of a towel and multiple towels for a wash - rinseless washing can be done in 90% of circumstances in place of a traditional.

Fphillips reacted to Ricky Bobby in When to Use and Not Use RW.
It all depends on your weather. I said 10 towels thinking its a northeast or up north salt and snow laden vehicle. I accomplish my rinseless washes using 6 towels plus one large waffle weave towel for drying on most maintenance washes.
Adams video is ok for rinseless washing but honestly the safest way is to use multiple towels and flip to clean sides and never reuse a towel in the same wash session that has been used already, thereby you aren't introducing dirt potentially back on the paint.

Pre soak it heavily with a garden sprayer with a dilution of 1:8 to 1:16 - Work slow, methodically and use multiple towels. You will need about 10-15 towels in a bucket with 2 gallons of water, and 1 oz of rinseless wash. Let them soak, warm water is better for both the pre-soak and the bucket solution in this weather, if you are up north.
The pre-soak will loosen up and roll off the "sand" and standing dirt off the surface. Then grab a towel out of bucket, squeeze the excess out, fold it in fours. Gives you 8 clean sides to work with, should be plenty to clean up a panel. After using all 8 sides, discard and set aside and grab a clean towel out of the bucket for the next panel.
If you go slow and use proper technique, pre soaking, no pressure when wiping the surface, and multiple towels not reintroducing dirt into the bucket, you will not have a problem at all and will be as safe as a traditional wash.

I made this up for my sheet rinse. I hold the hose connection in my hand a let the 'rinse' hose hang over the car.

Fphillips reacted to Gen9Rolla in Detailing the underside of a Chevrolet Suburban
If its a daily driver, I wouldn't go too crazy with it. It'll get ruined pretty fast unless you plan on cleaning the underside every week. I would use All Purpose Cleaner and a brush to clean it up, and a power washer if you have one. Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Nice work. Quick Sealant applied every couple months should keep hazing from coming back.

Fphillips reacted to Ricky Bobby in Storing towels in leftover Rinseless...?
There is something in the Rinseless solution that makes somewhat of a smell after about a week in the bucket, even if sealed airtight. I'm not sure if its the wax additive or something else. Maybe its because the last time I used it I had tap water in the bucket and not distilled.
I have another rinseless product on my shelf and as long as its sealed airtight I can store it indefinitely with no foul odor. I actually keep towels soaking in solution and sealed with a lid so I'm always "at the ready" to wipe down with a rinseless soaked towel. This way I'm not wasting solution.
I also mix my rinseless solution with distilled water since its cheap and keeps easier and wipes cleaner when using.

Fphillips reacted to The Guz in Swirl marks in Black paint
I would recommend you invest in a DA. If you are looking for a cheap DA that won't break your wallet look at the Harbor Freight one. All you need to do is get a better backing plate and good pads and you have a machine that will get you good results. Porter Cables are always cheap. There is lots of options on the market.

I would have to disagree with this statement. They both offer some good things.
I agree with you on this coating.

That's why a test spot with the least aggressive combination is important and always recommended. Let the paint tell you what it needs.
