chops1sc got a reaction from PT3 in Black paint...let it swirl...?
To O.P.
What wash method are you using? Perhaps a rinsless wash (GDWM for example) with a lot of towels is the best option. This was your are not introducing dirt back to the paint.

I like the old red pumps on the shampoo bottles because you could do about 14 pumps for 2 oz

chops1sc got a reaction from PHOKUS in Best Applicator for Liquid Paint Sealant
I have used the MF Applicator and it works great for getting into tight areas. I know you mentioned applying by hand, but I use my polisher and a black/gray pad and get the best results.

chops1sc got a reaction from SVillalon in How to clean & dress your WHOLE sidewall
This is a little tip I came up with (until someone else claims it, lol) for cleaning and dressing the whole sidewall of your tires without having to roll up a few feet to clean and then back again to dress.
I had some 2X4s laying around the shop, so I cut a 45 degree angle on one end and place one in front of each tire.

The plank is set in about 1-2" from the top of the sidewall. Then I drive up onto them. I usually get a little bit of a rolling start.
You wont believe how hard it can be to just roll up them LOL! Oh, and don't forget to set your parking brake...

Here you can see how they are set back from the sidewall.

Now, I can clean & dress all the way under the tire!

Omg brings back memories of 15-20 years ago when I helped my dad wash my mom's car and his car on a Sunday - we would dry the car (with bath towels of course) - then when done he would drive into the caul-de-sac and park the car, and spray on the popular Tire Wet foamy aerosol dressing and wipe it in with a rag, then move the car another 3 feet and get the spots he missed, let it sit a few mins and drive it back into our driveway and in the garage.
I think he even brought the cardboard up to the street so he wouldn't get oil smileys on the street lol -

chops1sc got a reaction from MRFLAGG99 in Adam's Polishes New Foam Cannon!
So I used my new foam cannon yesterday and I noticed something. The knob on the top is backwards! The "-" arrow points clockwise but I'm getting the most foam by turning it clockwise. Anyone else notice this?
P.S: this is the same way with my old foam cannon.

I meant to add this too, I recently got a CR spotless water system and I no longer will be toweling dry unless I am doing another step afterwards or if I am working on someone elses vehicle and they want it dry. Once the water is gone (without spots ) I will go back and do a detail spray wipedown with a softer towel.

FWIW; I bought a CR Spotless system last month and I am very satisfied with it. There are 10% codes and they offer free shipping. I have heard people say they are also sold at Costco stores. They also have a deal where if you purchase a system direct from CR and make a YouTube video featuring the system they will send you a free resin refill. I did just that and recieved my free resin within a few weeks.
I know the cost drives a lot of people away but If you can swing it you should definitely get one

You're on the right track. Just do a pre-cannon spray with the white or yellow tip. I put the remaining soap from the cannon in my soap bucket.

chops1sc reacted to Odds and Ends in A 37 year old Before and After
One of my regular customers just bought a 1979 Fiat 124 Spyder from the original owner. He bought it for his fiancee and then found out she didn't like the driving position, so he's cleaning it up to sell. He brought it to me to ask what I thought could be done with the paint. Being a tad crazy like I am and not afraid of a little challenge, I said "let's try it and see how good we can make it". Worst case is that it's not salvageable and the car needs painted or I go down to primer in way too many places and at that point, it needs painted. Anything better and I save him a trip to the paint booth. He agreed to try.....
I prefer to work on old, single stage paint with a PC7424 and a 4" pad, wiping off polish after each pass. It cuts slower and is easier to determine your progress. Of course it takes longer, but a more aggressive approach would result in a trip directly to the paint shop.
The owner was very pleased with the level of gloss and shine I was able to achieve and although there are quite a few scratches that still remain, it's a good "10 footer", maybe even a "5 footer" at this point. All of the oxidation and haze are gone as are about a dozen of my 4" pads, both orange and white!

chops1sc reacted to zapdon in First detail on the new ride.
I am thinking right off the bat at doing a paint matching front splitter and some bronze wheels in due time. Engine wise I want to enjoy my warranty for while and still need to finish my gto (heads and fast intake). I quickly photoshopped the shade of bronze I want. It was the first side profile of the color I want so styling will change. Then I can put 305s in the rear and 275s up front. Might even powder coat the current wheels for time being. will drop it like an inch eventually too.

Awesome car! Any plans for wheels or other changes?

I know that feeling, after I wash the truck I'll drive through the ATM or something and not want to open the window in fear of water streaks.
