Some good points @cwp2016nd  I’ll add that you can also take care of road film through the polishing process, but plan to smoke a pad or two. And sometimes that’s exactly what we do. We grab a pad that’s on its way out and finish it off. Especially if it’s bad. You’ll see the pad turn black.

And agreed on the APC not being strong enough. We use an APC concentrate so we can vary the strength.

And nice article!  It’s nice to see others starting to write more. Makes it more educational for everyone.

Glad there’s some interest already. And even sounds like people coming from FAR away possibly.

So in talking with Marquis and Justin, I think we’ve worked out how to pick the cars we are going to use!

Here’s the rough details...it will be a photo contest. You can email me photos at shane@detailedreflectionsct.com or you could even text to 860-539-7464 if that’s easier.

Photos have to be reflection photos including the vehicle you want considered for a service!  We are doing this as a play on our business name with Detailed Reflections and also to make sure we don’t try to tackle a coating on a car that needs a full blown paint correction in the interest of time.

So...up for grabs are one five year warrantied coating installed at the clinic by attendees with our oversight!

Also a full interior service performed by the attendees with full fabric/leather protection.

Those are the two photo contest prizes. We will raffle off the glass coating. The rule though is that if you receive one of the other prizes, you can’t win the glass coating. We want to spread the prizes around!

Start thinking of and shooting photos!

Thanks for the support guys and girls!

    Hey guys and girls!

Earlier this year we hosted a detail clinic at my home/shop. It was well received and I’ve been talking to my guys about having another one. We decided that rather than cramming one in this year when we have a bunch of work lined up, we would do it next spring.

We wanted to pick a date early for two reasons. First is so everyone has ample time to plan and manipulate their schedules for a good turnout. Second was so that we could do the planning portion and make it even better than last years.

So right now it looks like April 27, 2019 is the date of the clinic. We may shift gears a little bit and instead of traditional last step products, we may focus on one of our entry level coatings for a lucky attendee.

For the interior portion, we will go through how we handle interiors. Well, Marquis will go over how he handles them. But this year we will add some interior protection as well.

We will also install a full car glass package on an attendees car!

As the date gets closer, I’ll reach out to our vendors and see if we can get some sample product for people to go home with. We will have new shirts available and sweatshirts can be ordered before or after.

Just like this year, we will make this a hands on clinic. So our tools become yours for the day. Our products are all available to sample and ask questions about. And most of the work we do will be performed by the attendees.

We welcome and encourage questions and try to make this a very friendly event where everyone leaves with some bit of knowledge. We had members from this forum attend this year so they can share their experiences.

The clinic is held in Colchester, CT!  Since I forgot to add that!

We are open to suggestions and questions!

My favorite part about beads is when you turn your car on after it parked and drive off and then hit the breaks and the water from the roof all comes down on the windshield and runs right off

I detailed a '99 Acura RL this weekend.  The client originally wanted a wash & seal, with headlight correction, but ended up requesting a correction too.  I tried to discourage him from that, as he does not have a garage, and I am not sure he will maintain the finish to 'our' standards, but he wanted it anyway.  For the most part the car was in very good condition, but the before&after of the gas door is below.  I was too busy trying to beat the sun to get more pictures, but the 50/50 views of the 1/2 corrected trunk were stunning.  However I was about an hour+ into the correction when I looked at the trunk again (I was working outside, so got a different angle from the sun) and did not like how the corrected part looked.  I tried a more aggressive foam pad, but ended up having to use a MF pad and Correcting Polish.  I stared redoing from the belt-line up and was able to work the CP down and avoid a finishing step, but unfortunately the sun won, and I have to go back later this week to sand the headlights, dress the trim & tires, and hit a few spots on the interior again.

I don't judge. Not everyone has the money for something fancy. Maybe it's their first car and they're proud to own it and want to show it off. Maybe they've never been to a show before and they're just learning.  Rather than talk about them, I'll go over and start to talk to them, and then get the talk around about Adam's and what it can do for their car. But I'll also tell them that if Adam's isn't in their budget yet, that there are good products from Wal Mart that they can use to learn with.  We all start somewhere.  The only thing I really get picky on is when someone who DOES have $$ and brings their $100,000 ride to a show with swirls and crappy paint.  And then act like an arsehole and superior to others.  Those are the guys I avoid.

Don’t know if my perception is skewed since this is the first day with out rain or clouds in about 2 weeks. But my little beater is looking good today after a wash and ceramic boost 1.0. (I used ceramic paste wax about a month ago.)
