2nd Detailed Reflections Clinic in CT - April 27 - Official

Question

Posted (edited)

Hey guys and girls!

Earlier this year we hosted a detail clinic at my home/shop. It was well received and I’ve been talking to my guys about having another one. We decided that rather than cramming one in this year when we have a bunch of work lined up, we would do it next spring.

We wanted to pick a date early for two reasons. First is so everyone has ample time to plan and manipulate their schedules for a good turnout. Second was so that we could do the planning portion and make it even better than last years.

So right now it looks like April 27, 2019 is the date of the clinic. We may shift gears a little bit and instead of traditional last step products, we may focus on one of our entry level coatings for a lucky attendee.

For the interior portion, we will go through how we handle interiors. Well, Marquis will go over how he handles them. But this year we will add some interior protection as well.

We will also install a full car glass package on an attendees car!

As the date gets closer, I’ll reach out to our vendors and see if we can get some sample product for people to go home with. We will have new shirts available and sweatshirts can be ordered before or after.

Just like this year, we will make this a hands on clinic. So our tools become yours for the day. Our products are all available to sample and ask questions about. And most of the work we do will be performed by the attendees.

We welcome and encourage questions and try to make this a very friendly event where everyone leaves with some bit of knowledge. We had members from this forum attend this year so they can share their experiences.

The clinic is held in Colchester, CT!  Since I forgot to add that!

We are open to suggestions and questions!

I am most certainly interested.  The question is when will the new Blazer be released - early 2019 is all that is listed, does that mean January or June?  Thinking ahead... 14 hours each way, how many trips do I want to make up there in a year.

Glad there’s some interest already. And even sounds like people coming from FAR away possibly.

So in talking with Marquis and Justin, I think we’ve worked out how to pick the cars we are going to use!

Here’s the rough details...it will be a photo contest. You can email me photos at shane@detailedreflectionsct.com or you could even text to 860-539-7464 if that’s easier.

Photos have to be reflection photos including the vehicle you want considered for a service!  We are doing this as a play on our business name with Detailed Reflections and also to make sure we don’t try to tackle a coating on a car that needs a full blown paint correction in the interest of time.

So...up for grabs are one five year warrantied coating installed at the clinic by attendees with our oversight!

Also a full interior service performed by the attendees with full fabric/leather protection.

Those are the two photo contest prizes. We will raffle off the glass coating. The rule though is that if you receive one of the other prizes, you can’t win the glass coating. We want to spread the prizes around!

Start thinking of and shooting photos!

Thanks for the support guys and girls!

For those of us without facebook, does that mean we are not welcome? ?

Given your track record, I'm pretty sure that is not the case, but if you could let us know how to RSVP or get communications, it would be appreciated.

I know it’s WAY early, but we are tossing ideas out as we come up with them. I know some people are considering traveling from considerable distances (which is quite humbling to say the least). Would there be interest in us getting a reservation and doing dinner as a group the night before the clinic?  We can get a reservation for however many we need and go out to a nice dinner and make new friends!

That sounds like it could be a good time and while I am not confirmed yet, my wife it talking about coming with me since it a 14 hour trip and we'd make it a mini-vacation.

That leads to the question of how many others are looking at bringing spouses for a few days and are there any activities around for them to do in the area?

There is a variety of things to do actually. Plenty of food and restaurants to eat your way through. There are two casinos about 30 minutes from us if you want a show or gambling. And another about an hour away that just opened.

Connecticut and New England in general has a pretty awesome winery scene. About two miles from us is Connecticut’s only solar power vineyard. But there a ton of others on the Connecticut Wine Trail.

There’s the Bushnell Theatre in Hartford to catch a live show, or if you like a more intimate setting there’s the historical Goodspeed Theatre right on the Connecticut river.

A good day excursion is the Essex Riverboat and Steam Train. I don’t know if the train runs year round or not, it may. I’d have to look. That’s about 15-20 minutes from us.

So we aren’t a tourist hotbed by any means, there are somethings worth indulging in.

And for dinner the night before, I was thinking our favorite restaurant. They change the menu every six to eight weeks to a different part of the world. They have a menu that ch few seasonally for local fresh. And then their staple items. It’s on the slightly more expensive side, but worth it.

Check it here...their menu should be on open table.

Now that we are into the new year, it’s time to really start planning our clinic out.

We are still going to work on installing a ceramic coating during the clinic. The weather needs to cooperate to do it successfully. Not because we can’t work inside, but it needs to cure before going home or he left overnight. Food for thought...

We are going to do an exterior coating, an interior detail and install a glass coating. So three attendees will have services done by the group. The prep for a coating is similar to any other vehicle, it’s just the last steps that change.

All of our tools and products we use are fair game to try out. To give a short list of tools:

Rupes 21 and two 15 DA polishers

Rupes Mini

Rupes Rotary

Rupes long neck and short neck Nano’s

Tornador

Vapor Chief Steamer

MyTee Hot Water Extractor

Metro Sidekick

Metro Master Blaster

And we have a large selection of products to try. Those who have been by for work can attest to that!  It’ll all be opened up for everyone.

We will provide a cookout style lunch and beverages. Alcohol is fine, but it’s BYOB for when we are done.

I know some people were considering traveling. If you are, I’m happy to help find accommodations for you. Also, if there’s interest, the night before we can go to a nice dinner together as a group. I just need a head count to get reservations as it gets closer.

There is no cost for the clinic unless you want to go to the dinner the night before. We do this to give back, not to make money.

If you’d like any services done outside of the clinic, we can make arrangements to accommodate that as well!

And to enter for one of the services for the clinic, submit a photo of the vehicle you want to use with a reflection somewhere in it (we are Detailed Reflections after all).

If you have a topic/tool/technique you want to see get covered...let me know!

The knowledge that gets dropped at these is insane! Shane is amazing, but get Marquise talking interior work and you will be BLOWN away. His new recruit is definately detail oriented and while I have not seen in person a ton of his work I can say what I saw was impressive.

Looking forward to seeing folks there!

Need this linked on Corvette Forum or are you good?  I think I did it for you before, but not sure if you had any responses from any of those guys or not.

We did have responses and we had a few guys come and some RSVP and cancel. You’re welcome to link it up to them again. The more the merrier!

Thanks Rich!  I’d post on the Vette forums myself but not having a Vette makes it hard to really engage on those forums.

Anyone else is welcome to invite others or link other relevant forums as well. We are happy to have the attendees.

Done.  Best of luck.  And if the April date changes, let me know so I can change it over there for you.
