DieselDude reacted to LFairbanks in Your Favorite Christmas Gift??
Aside from having time off and able to get some sleep, seeing my wife and kid was the best. The month of December, a lot of days I leave before they get up and get home after they are in bed.
Material wise, my favorite was a code reader. I knew I was getting it, as the wife had me order it.

This was my awesome Adam's Christmas haul

So what was everyone's big score this year? Adam's related or not
I'll go first. I spent actual Christmas on the ship this year, but before I came back to work, my parents traveled to Florida from Maine for a week to visit me. I hadn't seen them in over a year now. So that was my best gift by far.

Merry Christmas everyone! I am so thankful to have made it through many hardships and hospital visits this year. With lots of prayers and support from family and friends, I'm able to spend time with my family today!
I think I'm safe to say that everyone here at Adam's Polishes have so many things to be thankful for this year, and we would not be successful without all of you.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you all, and here's to making 2017 even bigger and better!

DieselDude reacted to TheWolf in Garage Renovation Questions
Is the garage already drywalled? If not, insulate the walls and ceiling so it stays warmer in the winter, and cooler in the summer.
For detailing, there is no need for an exhaust fan or air filter, but a heater would be a good thing to have to allow for Rinseless or Waterless washing in the garage during winter.
Laticrete Hydro Ban is a product that is used for waterproofing under tile, stone, brick, etc. It cannot be painted. Also, on the floor it would have to be tiled over, since it cannot be driven on, or left exposed to weather.
https://laticrete.com/~/media/datasheets/lds6630_improved.ashx
Unless the garage is going to be used as a wash bay, there is no need for this level of waterproofing. Just prime the drywall, and then apply two coats of an exterior grade paint.
Also check to see what it would take to put a utility sink in the garage, and add some wire shelving to use as a drying rack for towels, wash pads, and applicators.

I wish there were times that I were bored at work. Especially this time of year.

DieselDude reacted to mc2hill in What did you do today?
I watched the hurricane coverage until 9:20 when the power went out. Spent a lot of time on the front porch watching the rain and wind. The worst was over about 2:30, and I started cleaning up the small limbs and leaves. The power came back on just as I finished!
Best wishes to those of you in SC and NC!

DieselDude reacted to TheWolf in Trouble with car shampoo
Not supposed to, but if having it dry is unavoidable, then you can reactivate the dried residue before the rinse per the above posts.

Did this yesterday and wrapped it up late last night. Finally finished the air compressor project. Wasn't much fun being an attic monkey on a hot summer day and digging around in insulation to find mounting location and getting all of the holes right.
Was able to try it out this morning on removing a flat from the wife's horse trailer and it worked sweet. Night and day difference between what I had and the new compressor.

DieselDude reacted to cev103 in I think I just increased my work load!
I've owned nothing but GM trucks all my life and I think there is a some truth to this statement with the last two body styles. It seems like the interior options (or creature comforts as I like to call them) are less prevalent in a Chevy LT compared to a GMC SLE, but as far as quality they seem to be the same since they're both built in the same factory (crew cabs are built in Mexico, regular cabs and double cabs are built in the US).
The MSRP on the Silverado was four grand more than my Sierra, but the dealer was able to take 20% off MSRP which was a much better discount than when I bought my Sierra.

Attended my son's graduation from Florida State University - needless to say I am very proud of him! He picked a degree that he was passionate about, and started his job putting that degree to use last Monday.

DieselDude reacted to pirahnah3 in New Stable Addition
Well due to one of my guys at work encouraging me to take his Jeep for a ride (older early 90s Jeep) I have been itching for a new ride. I have my work truck for my daily use but it was time to put something fun into the stable.
Stable pre addition is:
1955 Plymouth Savoy
1990 Dodge W350 RC LB
1997 Jeep (TJ) (Fairly new to the stable but its just kinda my bombing around vehicle)
Welcome my new toy.....
1995 (R129) Mercedes Benz SL500
All I can say is she is a BLAST to drive with the hard top off. The soft top is in need of some work, well there is a lot of little things that need to be done to her but she is a solid driver.
I will post some more topless pics in the near future. She has NOT seen the Adams treatment yet and will be seeing some of it soon. That said I am not sure if there was a bad respray job done on the car or if there is some type of coating over the entire car. There is a TON of orange peel in whatever the final coat is and is certainly not MB quality. As I said I will get some more pics soon and we can try to figure out where the mistakes have been made.
I have also been out driving her, and she gets some fair MPG, so far put about 300 miles on her and wow just such a FUN ride.

DieselDude reacted to cev103 in Happy Father's Day
This was my first Fathers Day this year. I went to a late breakfast with my wife and son at a local restaurant and then we just relaxed around the house.
Later in the afternoon myself and several other firefighters that I work with (some of us were off duty, while others were on duty) went to the Barbara Bush Chrildren's Hospital at Maine Medical Center to grill hamburgers and hotdogs for the families who have newborn children that are in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The March of Dimes sponsors it and provides all the food while the firefighters work the grills and help serve the food. My son spent a short time in NICU last October and I can only imagine what it's like for a father to have to spend Fathers Day (for some it was thier first) watching thier child laying in an isolete in the NICU.
This was my first time participating, but it was the second year that it's been held. A lot of my co-workers that helped out also have kids that are NICU graduates, so we know what these families are going through. Our goal is to continue to do this every Fathers Day and I really don't mind sacrificing part of my day to help out.
