Congratulations to you and the wife on the new house, and new suv.  Exciting to have a place of your own, and a garage.  If your like the rest of us here, you will quickly out grow your garage.  I remember thinking my garage was big in the beginning, Will definitely cut the size of the house in half and atleast double the garage next time.  Only stipulation that is required of me is horse property.

Like mc2hill suggested add more outlets.  Really easy to do yourself if your handy, especially with your breaker box in the garage and an open attic above.

    Congrats you and Mrs Chas!

Before you get too much stuff in that garage, get an electrician in and add lots more outlets!

And whatever you do stay away from this place 'Beware all ye who enter" !

The last year has brought about incredible change for both my wife and myself.  We have been incredibly blessed to each the land the jobs of our dreams, I completed three grueling years of graduate school and she starts her graduate program in a few short weeks.  We have certainly worked our tails off to elevate ourselves and make one another a better as a family.  The culmination of a lot of our hard work and a whole lot of blessings paid of this week as we bought our first home!  If you had asked us a month ago if this was in the plan so soon, we would have laughed, but divine intervention, or whatever it was, took hold and we find ourselves as first time home buyers.  The house has fantastic bones and needs just a few minor updates that are easily manageable.  Even better for me (and the sanity of my wife) it comes with an incredibly spacious two car garage with a sealed floor.  No more parking outdoors in large lots, not more navigating terrible apartment garages.  It is my own.  I can't wait to make this my personal detailing studio/workshop with fresh paint, cabinetry and organization.  Looking forward to making a big Adam's order for tools and accessories I couldn't previously justify owning with an apartment.  Sorry for the long winded rant, you guys are like a big family and thought I would share!

Congrats on the first home!  I just signed a contract on my second house and I really wanted a larger garage so I could park both cars and still have room to work.  But it didn't work out that way.  The house was nice enough everywhere else that I decided to settle on the garage.  There should at least be more shade in the driveway to work in.

Ha yes the beauty of an empty new to you garage. I built my house 10 years ago and it's a 3 car and it's so nice to walk out anytime you want to enjoy what you've worked for. I say enjoy because it's a simple pleasure but it's surprising how fast a garage can fill up and what collects in there after a period of time. Congratulations on your home

Haven't been on here in awhile.  What I did today (weekend) was bought a new vehicle.  The Tacoma was giving me a lot of issues and I was itching for a 4Runner anyway.  I need to find some time to give it the Adam's treatment!

The anti-static properties of TID  are the biggest reason I use it and recommend it to customers.  The smell doesn't linger and consistent use keeps everything clean and fresh.  It is very under rated and should be in everyone's arsenal for interior maintenance.  Many people don't understand why they need it but after they try it, they love it.

Agreed that Detail Spray is probably just as good or better on hard plastics, but for dash and door cards, buttons, knobs, etc, TID is hard to beat.

I had some time this weekend and thought it was time to remove the rust from the rear rotor hats and repaint them with something a little more durable than the silver paint that comes on them. I have just over 6k miles on the car and the paint was starting to come off.
I removed the rotors and ended up doing a god cleaning of the undercarriage.
I had a few friends help me out.

Sanded real well, cleaned with alcohol and masked for paint.

I used a duplicolor caliper paint. I did a few coats letting it tack up in between each coat.

Looks typical of dealer washes.  Good amount of swirling, but nothing appears deep.  It's going under the detailing knife in the next week or two to get a full correction.

Wife and I picked this up this weekend.  Used 2012 Volvo C60 that had just 16,000 miles on it.  Great car, love driving it.

Had the truck lifted with a 2" leveling kit.  I also had new shoes installed, General Grabber AT2s.  Last year I had Cooper Discoverer AT3's installed and they were ok at best, these new tires are awesome.

Had a chance to do a quick RW afterwards before getting back to grad school work.  I am in love with the new tire shine, had to apply another coat after this picture for a bit more gloss.

Don't know how many of you guys read Jalopnik, I am sure many do.  They just posted a really neat and heart warming video of a family whose son/brother has autism and they wanted to find a business that would employ him and create value and purpose for him, but wanted to do it together.  They started a carwash that employs over 30 a individuals with autism.  This article and video made my day and is extremely heart warming.  The power of family, compassion, and the want to make a difference in people's lives is incredible.

As an autism parent this story really cut to the core of me (shared it on FB a few days ago).

Tanner is only 8 years old now, and all our efforts on a day to day with him are getting him integrated into the world. People on the spectrum so often just don't function in the world as it is. Rather than focusing on academics we focus on functional/practical things - like feeding yourself, dressing yourself, learning to stay away from danger.

There is a very scary reality to our lives in that some day I won't be here anymore, my wife won't be here anymore and there won't be anyone left to take care of our guy - so I worry almost constantly about what will become of him. Will he be able to work? Will he be able to live on his own? The stories you don't hear are those of the kids on the spectrum when they become adults on the spectrum - many end up homeless with no one to care for them. I start to get choked up just thinking about these gentle souls and what a cruel reality they're faced with when theres no one left to care for them.

With places like Rising Tide Car Wash and Roses for Autism (an all autism staffed florist) there are small pockets of hope for those on the spectrum to find a place in the world and contribute. My deepest wish is that there are more and more of these places in the world as the rate of ASD diagnosis continues to rise.

I'll step down from my soap box now... thanks for sharing Chas.
