  1. Most ball players will tell you they'd rather lose 19-2 than 1-0. It's just one game. Hopefully the Rangers will win the SERIES - as they've done 6 straight times....
  2. There's always been a "lag" in All-Star voting. Most fans don't pay enough attention in the first half of the season to realize that guys may not be having as good a year as they had in the second half of last year - and the playoffs. And Iron Mike was INCREDIBLE in the second half and the playoffs.
  3. Wow! Seven Ranger All-Stars! I never thought I'd see the day... Winning is good.
  4. You're closer to it than me, but I don't think the humidor helps the ball break in the thin air or helps the pitcher not be fatigued from the elevation. Maybe it's just an excuse - like the heat in Texas always was until Nolan said "Not on MY watch!". They need to tun it into an ADVANTAGE and they just haven't been able to.... Bring back the Blake Street Bombers!
  5. You sure it's not Coors Field that ruins them? <grin>
  6. Didn't the Rock's pitching coach (Bob Abazaba?) ask to be reassigned? I don't believe he was on board with the new 4 man pitching rotation deal...
  7. That's a pretty bad call but I can't fault the fielder for trying to get away with it. Is it any different than an outfielder acting like he caught a ball when it was clearly a trap? Umps miss those all the time.... I agree with the call for expanded replay. However - I wouldn't put it on the managers to "toss a flag". There should be an umpire in the press box watching the play. He can have a signal to the umpire crew chief that says "Wait a sec. You may have missed that one." The umpire's union would like that because it gives them another umpire for ALL games. He could sit up there with the official scorer.
  8. I prefer AM as well. The bugs are MURDER in the PM.
  9. Just ease up on the pressure after you turn it off. It'll just lightly glide over the paint.
  10. Raines was great but he played in the shadow of Rickey. Also - the writers didn't like him as much as a guy like Tony Gwynn. Sadly - the writer's personal opinion of a guy has WAY too much impact on the voting.
  11. I agree. But it doesn't change the fact that that's the way it is sometimes..... However - who ELSE is on the ballot at the same time can have a HUGE impact.
  12. The Yankee's winning streak ends at 10. Which means they weren't good enough to win 11 in a row. Slackers.
  13. Schilling had moments of greatness in his career but was no better than mediocre for a great deal of it.
  14. I'll concure with the Piazza and Biggio call. Piazza was the best hitting catcher EVER and Biggio was a great all-around player for a long time. Is Biggio "first ballot" material? Dunno. Iron Mike is, though.
  15. Not to change the subject.... How 'bout R.A.Dickey for Cy Young? Wow!
  16. That's a terrific sentiment and works for guys like Clemens and Bonds but what do you do with a guy like Jeff Bagwell? Suspicion is all there is. Is that fair? Ryan Braun? Pudge Rodriguez? Seams to me you're throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Again - all I can do is shake my head at what has been done to a huge swath of the game's history.
  17. Didn't King Felix win a Cy with a losing record a couple of years ago? Most of the time the writers get that one right. I'm not saying you don't have an argument for Pedro. I'm just saying that it's a difficult argument. At Pedro's best he was the best I ever saw. Clemens was just great for a longer perior of time. Hmmmmmm...... PEDs?
  18. That's the great thing about baseball. One could ALWAYS argue..... How many Cy Young Awards did the Rocket win after he left Boston? 4 - he won 3 w/ Boston for a total of 7. How many did Pedro win? 3. Commence argument.
  19. Ha! I'm stealing THAT one! I completely agree. That's just one of the reasons this whole episode is so sad.... The fact is that MLB had NO INTENTION of solving the rampant PED problem until Congress got involved and threatened to take away MLB's monopoly rights. I think the Hall of Fame should make a section in the monument room that looks like a bunch of plaques have been removed - you know, faded spots on the wooden walls - with the explanation that this is where all of these guys would be now if they HADN'T cheated and MLB (and the player's union) HADN'T looked away.
  20. Because it cannot be considered OK to lie to Congress. If someone is called to testify before Congress and there's reason to believe they lied the gov't has no choice but to at least investigate. The problem is that the case the gov't built hinged on the testimony of people even less reputable than Clemens.
  21. Clemens was found not-guilty of pergury. He WAS NOT found not-guilty of doping. Pergury is a very difficult thing to prove and the government was unable to prove it to the satisfaction of the jury. To answer your questions: 1. Cheater - yes. 2. Liar - yes. I'll add another: 3. Best pitcher of his generation - yes. The whole thing is just sad.
  22. Another perfect-o in process? Ervin Santana is perfect through 6.... It's the year of the no-hitter. --- Never mind. 2 out hit in the 7th.
