Thanks dude! To be honest, the BMW has so many gadgets and safety features, it's probably the most user friendly bike I've ever rode on, especially for it's size. I'd think a GSXR 1000 would be way scarier, considering it's lack of ABS, traction control, etc etc.

Also, just a thought. Could the screen have a coating that the clay bar possibly took off or mixed with?? It has been awhile but if I remember correctly my screen looked similar just from wear and tear (as if a coating was coming off).

Just a theory that is in no way valid . . . just a thought.

I just didn't want to derail your thread Phil is all. But since you asked , Jim I hope this is ok he posted to me:

"I found that when I wiped the car down, it seems to dry really quickly and just leave residue. I used a two bucket method, but also realize I didn't wipe down as soon as I wiped on"

I would say in this case you may have had not enough lubrication. It's always best practice to pre soak an area lightly with diluted rinseless before touching it with your soaked wash towel or mitt.

As well, if you squeeze the wash media out to be too dry (and thus not lubricated enough) it will cause the small amount of product to flash and dry on the surface faster.

In mild to cooler temperatures I can wipe down one whole side of my X5 with 2 Mf towels (using GDWM) and not have anything dry.

When in doubt use more lubrication and let me know if that helps at all. It's always better to have the surface wetter, when doing a rinseless wash. That's a good rhyme to remember.

    Hey all!

So, last night I got home from work and decided it was finally time to see how the cyclo works. I've had it since Christmas, but never really had the opportunity to do a correct on anything. This was also the first time for me to use ANY sort of machine device. Eep!

My car: Pitch Black 2015 Challenger. Yea, pitch black. The car is fairly new, but there was a lot of post-factory scratches and spiderwebs in the paint.

I took what I've learned and started with the least aggressive pads and polish (white and paint finishing) and noticed it really didn't do too much. Although, on my first pass I managed to get too excited and scuff the clear coat. I tried to take a pic of it, but couldn't really get it to show.

Anyways, great, working backwards, I've put a scuff and only barely touched the spiderwebs. Moved on to orange foam pads and correcting. It helped a bit on the spiderwebs, but that scuff was still chilling. It was only on the top coat, so I knew I could get to it.

Lastly, I tried the white microfiber pad with finishing polish and it fixed it up the scuff, but it's still there.. but barely. I didn't go to orange microfiber, as I felt the problem was more operator error and not the cyclo.

Am I doing too much, or just need to hone in my skills? I'm wondering what my expectations for true correcting power of the cyclo should be. I'm working on a black car, so obviously I'm seeing EVERYTHING and when I see any scratches I feel like it's not good enough. Is a flex better for the OCD folks that want 100% correction?

Any thoughts/advice? Here's a few pretty crappy pics I was able to snap. Notice the line above the sticker that I had to see if I was making any sort of progress. Looks like I did, but still... not perfect.

Scuff above the flash.. the bottom scuff lookin piece was removable with a towel

Pretty Obvious Correcting Line (above the vinyl sticker, obviously)

Anyone using the great white as a shower towel? I'm getting a hankering to just replace all my towels with double softs and drying towels. To hell with terry cloths!

In the future just shoot us an email first - I could've had this already rolling in terms of making it right, but don't always see forum posts until I have time to check.

Exactly. I have a pitch black dodge challenger (so, just plain black) and the thing has small scratches all over. Did a full detail on Monday and the next day I had a fine layer of dirt over it. I was like "really? 12 hours?" Hahahaha

You're probably using more products than you need being new, you'll get it down with time. I use a lot of towels for stuff, like em fresh. I have north of 70 MF and there are guys with way more than me.

Having a lot gives me that breathing room.

For polishing, start at 3-4 to spread the polish out, then crank it up to 6.

For spreading wax or sealant, 2-4.

The low speeds really don't do anything except spread.

If you didn't break the 'let it dry' or 'spray it on hot paint' rules theres no concern.

Obviously its going to remove whatever wax or sealant was on the paint, in terms of overspray just make sure you flush all the surrounding areas with water and you're fine.

The worst case with APC on paint would be the potential for etching, but if you don't see any then you have nothing to worry about. Its not like some symptom will manifest itself later. It either damages the paint or it doesn't so as soon as you're done using it you have your answer as to what its going to do.
