Thats pretty much anywhere now. Obviously the larger the retailer the better the negotiated rates with the shippers. Just part of the game.

No clue what I am doing wrong
stripesace replied to Jrosacker's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
Hate to break it to you. Those swirls didn't show up because of just 1 or 10 washes... -
Correct. I've never been, but they have a facebook page "Adams Polishes Houston" or something. My driveway isn't bad for early-mid morning, or about the last 1.5 hours of daylight. I wish I had a more shaded area. I don't know of many coin washes period in the area. I've tried looking around the office for a coin wash and have never been able to find one. They discourage it for sure, but if you hustle through the bay, your probably not taking as much time as someone who doesn't use a bucket. Hit it during dead times. Surprised your high-rise doesnt have a wash area in the garage somewhere. If I were going to use a pay & spray, I'd probably follow what Adam does in his winter washing video. The actual washing of the car doesn't take too long for me. Its the wheels, drying, and details

They're the only shop in town thats worth checking out. Adam's Dealer in Houston is moving closing to the galleria, so that will now be a better option if you're in a pinch. they were previously located out in Alief at like Dairy Ashford and the Westpark. The drive isn't too bad. I live on the west end of The Woodlands, so I take 249 down to the beltway. About 40 min in the morning and 50 in the evening.

My goal is not leave my little corner of the bubble I already exist in up here in The Woodlands. I work on the west side of town (BW8/Westheimer) and can kind of already feeling it getting busier over there.

I had the flu last week and missed out on some great detailing weather. Maybe this weekend.

You could always get a 4 3/8 backing plate for the Flex to use the new pads.

HGG over Glass Sealant?
stripesace replied to falcaineer's question in Exterior Protection & Enhancement
I've not been happy with how H2O guard and gloss reacts with Glass Sealant on my windshield, so I typically do not use the two together on the windshield. Any other window, no problem though. -
H2O Guard and Gloss Towels

^^^ This is what I'm pretty confident happened. Probably just need to start over on the gray towels LOL. -
H2O Guard and Gloss Towels
stripesace posted a question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
Has anyone else experienced what I'm experiencing? My H2O guard and gloss towels (borderless grays) have seem to become more and more resistant to water which makes using them to buff off H2O guard and gloss VERY VERY interesting. I've thought about soaking them in a bucket of VERY high concentration of Revitalizer or even the boiling trick, but I'm leaning towards just tossing them and buying a new batch. Thoughts? -
Glass Sealant, I did something wrong!
stripesace replied to BrianT's question in Exterior Protection & Enhancement
I hit every window on my wifes new Toyota with finishing polish on the Rupes Mini after a cleaning, and before I did anything else to them. -

This is a well argued in the forums. Its split down the middle but the facts are the facts. The science behind paint sealant means it will adhere better to the paint if it's to the bare paint. I recently just ordered some Brilliant Glaze myself, and used it this weekend after my H2O G&G routine because I had the time. WOW! My layers are Paint Sealant, H2O G&G topping monthly, and then this weekend, Brilliant Glaze.

Is it me or am I seeing things?
stripesace replied to ramflava's question in Paint Correction & Polishing
The policy changed a few years ago. It was "avoid china when it can" but to in order to meet demands of the market, there would be some places that they would really have no choice but go to China. Adam had a video explaining this change in policy. The SK platform is manufactured by an OEM manufacturer. While it shares a lot of similarities with the OE unit, the Swirl Killers are likely to have some things specified specifically for Adams, besides just the colors of the buttons. I have read elsewhere from people that have used both, that the SwirlKiller seems smoother, and has a better power cord. -
Ceramic Trim Coating issue
stripesace replied to Rb1274's question in Exterior Protection & Enhancement
These things had a recall on them at one point because the dye prematurely faded. Is it possible thats what happened here, and we're coating plastic thats already... gone? -
You'll know right quick if they're painted/cleared or if they're molded plastic. If they're painted/cleared treat them like soft paint, thats softer. An orange pad with correcting polish will usually be enough to clean them up to 85%. Finishing Polish to jewel them. Going after 100% on these is tricky because at some point you start chasing the proverbial tail.

Best Applicator for Liquid Paint Sealant
stripesace replied to avimore's question in Exterior Protection & Enhancement
Red Hex Grip. Microfiber pad I found to be too aggressive for applying it. I use a red hex grip applicator to get everywhere the Rupes 15 MkII won't get and then do the rest with the Rupes on a speed of 1-2 and a black pad. Keep the machine moving for a nice thin coat. Let it sit for an hour or so, sometimes overnight, and then buff off so easily with a grey plush borderless. The stuff wipes leaving you an amazing depth of color and incredible shine. -
Paint sealant procedure
stripesace replied to DaRealDeal's question in Exterior Protection & Enhancement
I use the red hex applicator by hand. Black pad on machine. I typically do the red pad first, getting near all the tight places I dont want the machine pad to touch. I go around the whole car. And then I come back around with the machine and do all the big pads. I use the rupes mark II on speed 1 or 2 and keep the machine moving to keep it thin. Let it sit overnight or for a few hours and then come back and wipe it off, usually like there's nothing on the paint. The depth of shine you get when you first buff it off..... WOW. -
On the initial cleaning of a tire I agree. I got good results on the first pass. I did the second pass to get the rest, and most of my foam was white. I did the third pass just because this is a new vehichle prep and I wanted to ensure I started with the best possible foundation. I will follow up with Tire Shine as my maintenance dressing from here on out until I get new tires. Oh! And thank you for the compliments.
-
New car prep. 3 passes of tire and rubber cleaner. (Third was t necessary.... just felt like having an insurance policy. Dried with sidekick and then one coat of vrt on the tires.
-
VRT is the most straight forward to what you're looking for. I'm doing a 'new car prep' on a new car over the next few days. After Tire & Rubber Cleaner, I'll air dry the tire and wheel with the sidekick and then throw on a nice even coat of VRT. When I'm done with the detail I'll come back over it, and then maintain with Tire Shine. Ususally when I'm applying Tire Shine, I squirt 2 to 3 shots into a foam block and play ring around the tire. It's not a 'matte' finish, but more of a satin finish.

Using Adam's Rinseless I assume? If you're using it every morning, the wax product in Rinseless will build up over time and kind of mute the beading of paint sealant/Guard and gloss.

I took my mother-in-laws attempt to trim a bush out today with the rupes mini. Very capable machine.
