Naylor649 reacted to shane@detailedreflections in Adams Team: Qs about Gallons
Per ounce, you’re correct. For those of us who consume product in volume it’s a different story.

If we can’t buy in bulk sizes to keep our inventory costs and number of products down (space isn’t unlimited) I will search for an alternative elsewhere. It has happened before (unfortunately even to Adams as one of our suppliers). We no longer use certain products due to the inability to buy larger quantities. Polishes are the best example. Adams went from 16 ounces at $29.99 to 8 ounces at $19.99. So half the product at two-thirds the price. That was the catalyst to starting a search for new product. We settled on one as can buy in 32 ounce quantities (or even a gallon) at a time. So Adams may make more per ounce with the smaller size, but sometimes they lose the entire sale.

Sizes matter. For most an 8 ounce bottle of polish is fine. It doesn’t fit into our model where we are detailing for dollars. Less frequent orders, less risk of running out of product and better pricing are all benefits of the larger sizes.

Never hurts to claybar them to start to make sure you are not smearing something around like sap.

Naylor649 reacted to red94chev in One Step followed by Paint Sealant?
Technically yes, but if they know anything about detailing, I would make sure they understand.  Basically ask if they'd rather have a true polish and "6 month" sealant or a quick "all in one" job and price accordingly.

Naylor649 reacted to shane@detailedreflections in One Step followed by Paint Sealant?
You could seal over the one step. But if you’re going to seal it, you may as well use a true polish. You’ll get the best in polishing and the best in sealing using the standalone products and ultimately a better finish.

Depending on the vehicle and the brake set-up, you may want to pick up the Turbo Stick or Turbo Stick Mini to get into the hard-to-reach areas of the barrel. (Drill not included )

Same here,  T&RC every wash.  The more upkeep you do, the less product you use each time, too.

I know you’ve made up your mind, but figured this was a good thread for this example.
This is a daily driver.  I used PS on these wheels in Oct/Nov and have performed 3 or 4 washes since. I’ve used only Throwback shampoo in a bucket to wash the wheels.  The barrels were cleaned with a wheel woolie once (in Feb) and faces got HGG then too. While I’m not dealing with performance brakes or pads with these, the PS significantly reduces the amount of crap that sticks to the wheels.
Pic is today after a spray with water, and cleaning with the wheel brush and Throwback shampoo. They obviously need additional detailing, but that won’t happen until most of the road patch is done being put down—sometime in late April.

You can use the Adams sponge type applicator. We use suede 4x4 applicators on a block or even alone for tight spots. The buffing off is the harder part since the towels are thicker.

We actually use a Harbor Freight airbrush. They work well since it’s not precision work. They’re also inexpensive so if we trash one by not getting it clean enough, we are only out $10 or so. We also don’t hook it up to an airbrush compressor, we connect it to our big one with the regulator turned down. This allows a constant flow of air without the compressor kicking on and off.

And yes, Adams Wheel Coating can be sent through an airbrush. Next time we do a set, I’m going to do a write up on it. Might be a few weeks though before that happens.

When airbrushing, there’s less buffing required since it tends to be a more even application, but it is required. You will go through more coating since you’ll lose some to overspray.

After you do 2 or 3 panels you can start slacking off on product since your MF will starting to load up.
If you apply too much H20G&G you may get streaking.

Washed my TA today. I dried and sealed, the paint, glass and wheels using H20 GG. Then I topped that off with a non Adam’s spray wax that is my favorite spray wax of all time. These two together make for stupid gloss. The pics don’t do it justice.

I like to wait a week or so. Just to let the repair really cure and harden before taking anything to it. The repair is really simple and doesn’t take long. Well, chips are easy. Scratches are a different creature. Build the paint up. Let it cure. Build it up. Let it cure. Once it’s above the paint, we polish or wet sand it down so it’s even. Not entirely a traditional use of it, but it’s how we do it. I’ll be doing a post on a repair in the next month or so. Just waiting for the car to come in for a coating.

And you’re welcome!  You can always shoot me an email or direct message too. I try to be good about replies.

Finally got a nice day to wash yesterday.  Went from snow/rain most of the week to sunny and 55F yesterday.  It was very nice to be out washing in a t-shirt.

Washed a couple months of winter crud off of the Explorer, and gave it an application of H2O Guard & Gloss.  Also washed the Raptor while the wife did the interior of her Explorer.

Today I applied Ceramic Boost to the Raptor and did the interior.  Vacuum, windows, wipe-down with damp cloth, then a generous application of Leather Conditioner to all the interior plastic and leather surfaces.  Finished with Tire Shine.

You know its been a good weekend when the detailing area looks like this:

Naylor649 reacted to shane@detailedreflections in I wat to take my detailing to the next level
To do carpets you need a few things.

    First...patience.

Second...tools. We use a combination of hot water extraction (something most people won’t have access to), stiff bristle brushes, soft bristle brushes, we even have brushes on our cyclo for carpets, wet/dry vac is ideal and we use a tornador tool (something no serious detailer should be without).

Third...chemicals. Adam’s makes Carpet & Upholstery cleaner which works really well. Spray it on generously and scrub. Then scrub some more. The residual moisture will be taken out by the shop vac and it’ll take time to finally dry out. APC doesn’t hurt to have on hand for really stubborn spots, but make sure to do a test spot somewhere hidden first.

Be patient. Scrub. And don’t be afraid to use product.

And if you have any embroidery, only use the soft boars hair brush.

Naylor649 reacted to Rich in I wat to take my detailing to the next level
Don't have an extractor.  I have a small Black and Decker steamer that works great. I steam the carpet to loosen the dirt, brush it good,  scrub with Adam's carpet cleaner, rinse it out with a wet rag, then blot it with a dry towel till it's nearly dry, steam it again, hit it with a brush again, and blot again with a dry towel, and done.  Never had anything that didn't come out using that method.

Naylor649 reacted to shane@detailedreflections in Thought I’d seen a lot then a client says...
So a client brought a car in for service today. Interior and exterior, one step polish, etc. She says “some mice and got in the car and there’s been a bit of an odor. We got them out, but the odor is still there sometimes.”

“No problem. We will see what we can do. There might be some residual odor causing things left behind. Some hot water extraction and steam should take care of most, if not all of the odor. If it doesn’t, we can ozone the car and that’ll do it for sure.”

So my partner Marquis starts doing what he does inside the car while I start outside when he says “uh, you need to see this.”

He lifted the spare tire compartment to clean like he always does...and he found this...

Yes, that’s a dead mouse that got stuck in the wheel trying to go wherever he was going. Think we found the potential cause of the odor. He was stuck pretty good and took some work to extricate him.

Just when you think you’ve seen most things to come across. Wondering if I charge extra when the client picks up her car for rodent removal...

A previous attempt to install the Tapatalk plugin was not successful.

With the recent update to the current forum software version, I was able to get the Tapatalk plugin installed.  However, I could not get the site registered on Tapatalk, since there was already an old Owner account for this forum.  Apparently the forum used to be available on Tapatalk a long time ago.

My assumption is that the old Owner account is under the email address of a former employee, so we will need to contact Tapatalk to get the Owner account information updated, in order to get the site registered.

Thanks for your patience while we get this figured out.
